scotch tape to close truck gear holes

Ok Model Railroad Hobbist had a tip from someone to stop stuff from getting sucked up into your truck gears. just put a piece of scotch tape across the bottom of the truck! seems totally simple. also acts as a catch for any gunk that does get sucked in, getting stuck to the sticky.

I cant think of anything off hand that would make this an issue for the truck, gears, etc. I know we had a couple of drive shafts snapped because of small bits of grit getting sucked into the trucks and jamming gears in there.

im tempted to try it out here on a train and test how it works.

cheers
