Book: A Geek in Japan

Recommended Posts

I got a new book on Japan. Its written by a Spanish software developer now living in Tokyo.  This book was originally published in 2008 in Spanish.

Its described as a cultural guide for the Internet  age. It is written magazine style with numerous small articles with many photos including train culture, bushido code (zen, Confucianism, loyalty and honor), visiting a temple or shrine, chado, concept of giri, sakura, face masks, handing over a business card, the Japanese economy, the invisible hand, workplace manners, daily life in a Japanese company, life of a family, life of retiree, safety in japan, Japanese cuisine (with photos of various dishes and a brief description), manga, anime, Japanese music, television and movies. A quarter of the book is devoted to pop cultural genres. There is mini-travel guide as well.

He also has a website on Japanese culture.  But it is nowhere as good as the book.

That was until I found the blog category on trains.

There also are photos from the book.

The book is available from Amazon.com where there are reviews and an online preview.
