Kato and Tomix turnout motors are pretty much the same. The only thing I can think of that might cause issues is that Kato requires more power to throw the switch, and that the Tomix motors can't handle that power.

I thought the website claimed that the decoder would blow, not the tomix turnout, or am I misreading it?

 

Either way, wouldn't a resistor in series with the tomix turnout solve that problem?

I haven't read the details to be honest.. I have tried a Lenz accessory decoder modified for Kato turnouts on a Tomix turnout, and that worked just fine. That was a static, 6-output decoder though, not a tiny one like the Digitrax mentioned.

I've used an NCE Switchkat to operate a Kato turnout and a Tomix semaphore signal together but maybe the output spread between the two drops it down a bit.
