TOKYO — A man from Zama in Kanagawa Prefecture has been arrested for posting messages online threatening to cause an explosion in a tunnel on the Odakyu line in Machida. Police said Saturday that the man has been charged with conspiring to obstruct business.

The man has been identified as Hideki Kojima, 38, a local government employee. According to a report on NHK, Kojima posted a message to an online message board on Sept 18 at around 2 a.m. that said: “Prepare yourself because I’m about set off an explosion in the tunnel near Tamagawagakuen-mae Station.”

A member of the public emailed police to warn them of the threat. Police said efforts were then made to coordinate with Odakyu Line officials to strengthen security around the station, NHK reported.

Kojima was quoted by police as saying he had been drinking and as he made his way home, the trains were late, so he got angry and uploaded the message.
