Or are there just a few new ones? Amazing video btw. Definitely an 'inspirational layout'. the new E235 series was specifically designed for the Yamanote Line. 143 cars (13 11-car train sets) built with another 407 cars (37 train sets) under construction https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E235_series Link to comment
Gordon Werner
Because the Yamanote line uses 11-car trains, one of the ends of car 10 (right side of the photo) had to be built differently so that it matches the lead car of 10 car trains which sometimes share platforms/tracks. this is so the platform gates will line up correctly. That's cool! I didn't know that! Is the E231-500 also the same, with a different door formation on car number 10? Link to comment

Some of the new 7/10 cars were reused in the early E235 sets, as they're still quite new. Link to comment
JR 500系
And here is a video from miyakomokei, upgrading the Kato E235 even further to look even more realistic... And just for comparison and fun, they did a similar video on the Tomix E235 : It's pretty obvious to me which is a better choice, simply by judging on the amount of extra work required.... 6 Link to comment
katoftw
I'm struggling with the look of the Aichi DD51. I've never seen the prototype in real life, only pictures. But now I have a 1/150 model in my hand, I'm not sold on its looks. I got it cos I wanted another DD51-800 different from my DD51-842. But cannot get my head around all the black. Link to comment

I quite like the look of the DD51-800's in the JRF Renewal Livery as it gives them a fresh modern look, kind of like dressing mutton up as lamb, I have seen them in the flesh next to units still in the old JNR livery at Inazawa and they do present themselves handsomely as that don't have that tired old look about them. 1 Link to comment
katoftw
It is packed away. Maybe it'll grow on me. If not, someone will buy it on ebay for 60-65 dollars. Link to comment

We are talking the 7008-A, with the upper cab parts in black? (Not the other DD51 800 Aichi that came out, the 7008-B)? Just for reference the HS price is ¥ 6390 . So $60-$65 is reasonable. I might have to get myself a little fleet of those. The little guy is always asking for shunters for the yard. I'll see how I feel about it after I try my DD16 decoder implant. Kiha66
Most of the Kato diesels and electrics are sold for around $50, once the hobby store discount off MSRP kicks in. DCC for the DD51 is one of the easiest installs I've done, its just a drop in decoder. I'd definitely recommend getting a model. Link to comment

Lately, I'm finding that I'm not getting the usual thrill when something new arrives in the mail. I'm pretty sure it's guilt about expanding my stock while not advancing more with my modelling. Also, I have another project that I have to work on. I have a Kato RDC that I plan on converting into an M-497 'Black Beetle'. So, after I finish my current modelling project, and work on the Beetle, maybe I'll reward myself with a fleet of these things. Until then, I'm not buying any new trains except a few "unmissables" (Orient Express, ICE 4 ect.) Edited May 7, 2018 by gavino200 2 1 Link to comment
Kiha66
Sounds like a good plan. I'm currently looking for a job so I'm trying to detail the models I have rather than buy new ones. That new kato 485 200 is rather tempting though... And then that new D51 in a few months... 2 Link to comment

marknewton
Nice to see #200 out and about instead of shuffling along at Umekoji. I'm sure the new model will be nice, too. Now if only Kato would re-release their 1/80th scale D51, I'd be very happy. I could always justify having a few more. Cheers, Mark. Link to comment
Kiha66
Wooo! I see lots of freight cars in my future. I really like the idea of the taki 43000 set with all the different colors mixed in. I wish kato would re-release the 10 car seki sets too though. http://www.katomodels.com/product/poster/files/2018_9a.jpg http://www.katomodels.com/product/poster/files/2018_9b.jpg Edited May 10, 2018 by cteno4 3 Link to comment

I had avoided purchasing any Taki 43000’s before as they are being steadily withdrawn from service, I’ll have to do some research of this set and see if it fits into my 2012 to current day timeline. nah00
At least the new takis can break up some of the monotony of all green or blue. And also make my trains a bit longer. Link to comment
