I'm rather tempted to get one, and perhaps run some tourist trains, Chichibu or Oigawa style. Cheers, Mark. It's a nice model, not as detailed as the exquisite Tenshodo models, but considering it's a much older product and it's nearly half the price of those, not a minus in my eyes. I like it because it is a what is called a "pike sized" loco suitable for small spaces, and at home on the rural branch line. The C56 type is most famous for being used on the Koumi Line, usually hauling 2 or 3 coaches or a short freight, earning the nickname "highland pony". http://sl-taki.blog.so-net.ne.jp/_images/blog/_1f4/sl-taki/010-231cd.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3027/2603038512_b5a57baa62.jpg 1 Link to comment

jappomania
Hi Qwerty...... Daniel curiosity, why complete and uncomplete sets? are boxes without one or more cars or with junk or damaged cars? I bought on yahoo and ebay some junk sets for spare parts and for kitbashing, if you need something or if you wanna sell yours ... (my last project is the original 300 J0 with 5 panto, finally I find the photos! but I need 2-3 cars more to cut & paste) ciao Massimo Link to comment
qwertyaardvark
The "complete"/"incomplete" statuses refer to "prototypical" complete sets. For example, the 300 is "complete" since I have all 16 cars, where as the 500 is "incomplete" since i only have 13, possibly only 11 cars, of the 16 needed. Fortunately, it does not refer to randomly missing cars in base/expansion boxes; otherwise i would be pulling my hair out trying to find individual cars to ease my OCD tendencies :P Also, 1st/2nd/etc sets are mentioned, b/c in the grand scheme of things, I do plan to own multiple "complete sets" for a far-flung-future-planned Tokyo station. I know this sounds insane, but for example, sometimes an E4 will leave Tokyo attached to another E4, or 400 or E3... and I don't want to couple/uncouple/recouple various sets to have them arrive/leave the station in said configurations so I'll have all combinations in a hidden yard in whatever configurations I need/want. (this will happen as soon as i get a 6+ figure salary) *crosses fingers* :P As far as the 300 junk set is concerned, I'd be more than happy to sell that to you for your J0 project~ I had purchased it off of yahoo.jp not knowing it was a junk set (i had yet to learn the kanji for "damaged"), so I mainly used it as a track&clearance-testing unit. It does run (rather loudly), some paint scratches, damaged headlights, nicks here and there. One pantograph is missing, but both panto housings are there. If you need any cars from Tomix 92639, PM me if you are interested, so that i can send pics of what I have and/or send the trains in your direction :) Link to comment
brill27mcb
You could count your Eurostars as complete 14-unit "regional" sets. Otherwise you need another expansion set, and then need to swap out one food service car for an additional first-class car -- not easy and not cheap! My understanding is that the regional sets, designed to run farther into the U.K. on various lines, were not used and lanquished in storage for years. (What a waste!) But your N-gauge version of history doesn't have to include that detail. Mine doesn't... I think my 14-car train is long enough to give the proper effect. Rich K. Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
I didn't feel like making a forum-friendly list, so here's a dump from the spreadsheet I've got in my iPad. Nick_Burman
The picture shows the present fleet of the Tomiiden. Some cars still need work (motorization and MT couplers). All Tomytec. Not shown: - Tomytec Niigata Kotsu DeWa 51; - Tomytec Kotoden Mo 62 + Ku 81 + Mo 73; - M-A JNR DD13-99 (brown loco); - M-A Ohmi ED14-1 (type); - Kato WaFu 29500; - Kato ORo 30 coach. This sums up my N scale Japanese fleet for now. There are a couple of dismembered Kato ToRa floating about which I must make an effort at restoring. Plus the remains of my N NA scale collection, mainly locomotives. Cheers NB 2 Link to comment
Samurai_Chris
Wow, you guys are full on! For now, I just have my Tomix N700-8000 Sakura 8 piece set on order. And I might pick up another Micro Ace 813 local. I guess with the ease that this hobby can become addictive. I have tried to limit my interest in what I have lived with here in Fukuoka only.. If something in the way of modern Queensland trains come along in Nscale, I may have a look at that. But for now, my main focus is on a layout and scenery for the few I will run... Link to comment
scott
Wow, I should have read this thread sooner. Here's our Japanese stuff, if memory serves (little Iron Chef joke there :-P ): Kato 115 Niigata (green stripes) - 2 sets Kato E127 Niigata Kato E127 Oito Line Kato 165 Moonlight (green version) Kato 165 Panorama Alps Express Kato 455 Green Liner Kato 500 Shinkansen (7-car set) - Anders's token fast train - doesn't fit in, but oh well Kato ED75-700 plus several mixed blue-train cars Tomix 115 Minobu Line (early purchase; nice train, but it doesn't really fit in) Tomix 583 Kitaguni livery Tomytec Portram (red) Tomytec "Tama Train" (not built yet - doesn't fit in, but Anders likes it) Some of those don't fit with the Niigata/Echigo setting I'm trying for, so some might get sold/traded (455, Oito Line E127), while the rest will stay, usually because they're Anders's or he likes them. The only thing I feel like we "need" at this point is a 485 that fits the scene for limited-express/rapid services--JNR livery or something that looks right for the Hokuetsu or Kubikino. But that doesn't mean I'll turn up my nose at good deals on other stuff. :-) Link to comment

If I see more Keisei/Keikyu/etc. trains I will certainly buy them, but due to recent changes in regard to model railroading, I'll also concentrate on collecting a small fleet of a private rail trains. I'll explain more on this in a different thread. Link to comment
