skynet forklifts

skynet is releasing some fork lifts. nice little ones, but not too detailed and out of precolored plastics so not all that realistic in the coloration. two styles with two different color schemes for both. not a great deal for $14! nice cast metal ones can be had for less. bit of a disappointment there on the price for these... tomytec step up! visual scene collection with a few pallets of boxes, etc! perfect!

The Tomix forklifts are better priced, but just as low detail.

The Fujimoto series forklift seems to be the only good container yard forklift so far, but it comes in a blind pack, from which the steam roller, street sweeper and snowplow are probably of no use. The crane is interesting since it includes track guides.

botht he markuka and fujimoto are good for containers and a nice step up from the old tomix fork lifts.

these skynet ones are for smaller stuff i think. they are a mid to large sized crates, etc. for use in a warehouse, loading dock. perhaps even to load stuff into containers.

still think tomytec could do these as a visual scene item with some pallets and crates and make a nicely detailed little couple of sets.

Yeah, assuming the Japanese don't have any secret technology, the reach lifts are usually battery powered, and designed for lifting pallets on and off shelves in a warehouse (on most models the fork can also be taken off and replaced with specialized lifters, for example a single round pole is used to move items in rolls like bulk paper and carpet). The other ones look like yard forklifts, meant to load and unload pallets from trucks, containers and outdoor storage areas. I don't know if Japan uses an electric version, or the same propane style used in NA.

Got the little aoshima fork lift. i got the little standup version (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10127488) for my fish warehouse. looks pretty good, but they use precolored vinyl plastics for it so it does look a tad plastic. two little pallets are provided as well. lift works so thats a nice bennie over the cast metal forklifts out there for the most part. at $14.50 it certainly feels a bit pricy. i would expect that tomytec would come out with a nice virtual scene collection with maybe 2 or 3 sides of something like a large pallet lift to small stand up forklift to a full small sit down forklift. each set then could have a forklift, figure, and some palettes, maybe some crates/boxes and maybe a few loaded palettes (ie some cast that looks wrapped onto a palette.) this would be right there with the new luggage set coming soon. i think tomytec could do a better job of a little set of scenery things like this visual wise and also bring it in on its usual like 800yen visual scene pricetag.

fun thing to try and do would be to make some palettes and boxes and figure out some very thin clear streachy plastic to wrap the boxes to the palettes.

i have been trying to figure out an easy way to make a bunch of fish tubs and bins for my fish warehouse. looking at trying to slice rectangular tubing and then filling in the bottom. we will see if i can slice it off squarely with the chopper or the chop saw. then its to making some tuna out of sculpey! may try to just cheat and do a mould from the tomytec one!

cheers
