Tomix - New Releases

Recommended Posts

Holy spinning balls! Genbi!

GENBI GENBI GENBI!

Needless to say... another shinkansen is ready to join in the already crapped yard.... though 28000 is quite a lot to ask for a 6 car train....

Seems Tomix is also not gonna lose anytime soon to Kato for the 313s...

The Ginza Line 2000 may be interesting for a conversion project to a Hitachi Dentetsu 2000 type, although it is waaaayy too expensive for that.

The Toden 7000 in revival livery is a surprise to me though, as Modemo already did these.

Tomytec also just announced some of the trains to be included in Railway Collection Volume 24, to be released in Fall 2017:

  • JNR Hanwa Line KuMoHa 20-200 + KuHa 25-100
  • Kintetsu 820 series
  • Hiroden Miyajima Line 1080 type (!)

Now, I promised myself not to get into Hiroden, but this is a pleasant surprise.

In other news, here's a bunch of pictures from to be released Tomix and Tomytec models:

I searched for Genbi and found this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E3_Series_Shinkansen#/media/File:E3-700_R19_Genbi_Shinkansen_20160910.jpg

I can understand the turnouts being removed from the main, but why would these short sections be left in place when all the other track around them was taken up?

If they were just trying to save labor/expense, it seems they could have done less?

Happens all the time in Germany. Old turnouts are taken out because they're needed elsewhere. They're very expensive after all. The dead track around it is not important, so no need to waste manpower and money.

I also would like to point out: http://www.jp-ngauge.info/ngi/2017/04/tomix-bfa8.html

Of which the latter might be of interest for a lot of people ;) :

- KiHa 40 in Ltd. Express livery;

- EH200 in revised format;

- KiHa 45, 23 and 53;

- JR Central 313-2600 and 313-2300/2350 Series;

- JR East E3-700 Genbi Shinkansen;

Ooooh, thanks Toni!  I've been hoping Tomix or Kato would do a run of the Ltd. Express livery KiHa 40.  Glad I didn't try to bid for the micro ace ones on buyee, I'll probably get two or three.

I understand that, but it looks like they took out a lot more than they needed to?

Mind you, these are not prototypical for the JNR Era and I think only two or three cars exist in these colours. As far as I know at least...

Next to the stubby track, on the left, is a track plate that can be placed on top of the main line for light MOW vehicles and act as a point. The reduction of one small maintenance point means that there are no joints to interfere with the smoothness of the Shinkansen's ride and reduce wear on parts and the point itself. These appear everywhere in Japan (especially on busy high and/or high speed lines) in the same form or another.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Toni.

That also covers why the other section doesn't continue after the curve, although there is space to expand if ever needed.  I can see now that the rails on that curve are raised from the main.

It's not at all a case of a turnout removed from the main, but a purpose-built removable point for maintenance.

Preordered the Genbi without even a second thought. I expected it to cost more due to the paint job. I wouldn't be surprised if Kato releases it too but for Shinkansen I generally prefer Tomix even though they don't have destination boards (though I have the sticker set that was rereleased fof the E1/E3/E4 on reserve so that's not a real issue) because of all-wheel pickup.

Also got the EH 200 to go along with my EH 500.

Okay simple question on Genbi train, will Kato also release the model? :)

Just like the 500 Series Eva if they do so Tomix will still have the superior product.

I'm not so sure about that.  The Kato 500 series Eva had non-prototypical pantographs, but I don't know of any issues with Kato's E3s from a performance or accuracy standpoint.

One thing I dislike about the Tomix E3s (and their 400 series as well) is that the motor is located in one of the end cars.  Makes disassembly and maintenance more annoying than necessary.

Having said all of that, I'm glad that Tomix has taken the plunge and decided to make this.  I hope it proves popular.

It's that I already have collected a bunch of (standard gauge) N gauge interurbans and N scale stuff in general, not to forget that there's not that much Japanese structures in 1:80 scale available on the market. Otherwise I would be so getting into this.

I'm sure I'll be a minority voice (as I often am), but I tend to think that generally North American HOn30 and European HOe (and even British 009) have more interesting prototypes and much wider selections of models available.  I do like the Kiso Forest Railway and the stunning modules that have been built of it.

I'll admit to knowing little of the Japanese ~60 Cm lines, but the Maine Two-footers (search SR&RL) and European networks were extensive operations with a wide variety of power, rolling stock and operations.

Here's a 1930's period-quality video sample.

For so far what has been deducted from Twitter releases from NGI (the most comprehensive still). Tomix is going pretty crazy with the recent announcements...

Tomix:

DE10-1000 in seven different variants with matching rolling stock through a voting system where you can participate with in when you buy one of the seven announced locomotives. Somehow, I'd like to see either the Hokkaidō or JR West torokko trains win:

  • Kushiro Shitsugen Norokko (JR Hokkaidō);
  • Brown livery + 12 Series Orient Saloon (JR East);
  • JR Tōkai livery + 12 Series Naco-za (JR Central);
  • Kinokuni Seaside (JR West);
  • Island Express (JR Shikoku);
  • Hyper Saloon + 783 Series Hyper Saloon (JR Kyūshū);
  • JR Freight livery + KoKi 71 'Car Rack'.

  • 183-0 Series lineup announcement in HG finish (expect variants);
  • KiHa40 in Oga line livery;
  • JR Hokkaidō KiHa 261-1000;
  • 165 Series Montrey colour;
  • Keiyō Rinkai Railway KD55 (renewed version);
  • ED62 with double headlights;
  • 12-1000 Series passenger cars without white line;

https://twitter.com/NGaugeInfo/status/862474940565434368

  • JR West 233-5000 Marine Liner (with double decker);
  • JR East 209-2100 (Bōsō livery) and 209-2200 (Nambu line livery);
  • JNR 103 Series 'Yamanote Line Omoshiro Densha'.

That I also have to take into consideration. The thing is that I have a bunch of Tomix mini points laying around doing nothing and 1/80 narrow gauge is the best excuse I have to make use of them. A mini layout with a narrow gauge theme would be perfect for these cute Tomix trains. I won't be collecting them excessively, as my prime focus would still be N-scale anyway.

Dang...

While avoiding Kato's release to the best I can, I cant avoid Tomix's....

That Marine Liner 5000 series!! That 209-2100 Boso Line Livery! And what is that 103 that is painted at the bottom right?

Interesting I've never seen 223s with double deckers~ or is that double decker only the 5000 series?

From this video, I see most of the consists are 233-5000 with 2 cars connected to 233-5000 with 3 cars including the double decker 5000 series...
