Making corrugated-metal roofs?

Recommended Posts

Scott,

I remember an article i think in mr from when i was a kid that used heavy duty aluminum foil and pressed it onto a rough file to make the scale corrugations (which at n scale are pretty tiny, like half a mm). then they glued it to styrene to make it keep its shape and just let the edges stay free.

there is some scale stuff in metal, but it is not cheap!

there are some styrene sheets out there, but i think its only one sided and heavier stock.

i actually bought like 7 or 8 of the bachmann car repair shops for like $3 ea (they were on fire sale!) as they are basically all corrugated siding and roofs and lots of skylights. figured they would be great parts to do some scratch building from. you can still find these cheap at times at some hobby shops and on ebay. if you really want i can ship you one of mine if you want to play.

cheers

Thanks, guys--those are lots of options; I'll see what I can get ahold of. The foil-on-file technique is pretty creative...
