nscalestation
Hello, I have a question about the couplers on the Kato E5 Shinkansen. Recently I picked up an E6 set and noticed that the nose's on the end cars are removable and can be connected to the nose on the E5. This is something I would like to do but found that my older release of the E5 (10-857) does not have the removable nose's. I am thinking of purchasing the newer release of the 3 car starter set for the E5 (10-1663) that does have the removable nose's. What I need to know is if the couplers between the cars of the E5 are compatible between the older release and the newer release. Has anyone done this, combining the cars from the two releases ? Thanks, Link to comment
tripel7
Are you sure your E5 doesn't have the coupler? Only one end car of the E5 has the coupler, which from my memory is the nr10 car. EDIT: just pulled up the feature list of Kato 10-857, it should have the nr 10 car coupler. Edited January 28 by tripel7 Link to comment

Yavianice
all 10 car shinkansens and mini shinkansens only have noses that open up on one side during regular operation. This is modeled accordingly. Link to comment
nscalestation
Yes, I figured it out. Car 10 on the E5 set does have the removable nose as does car 11 on the E6 set. I am excited to run these this way at the next show in April. Thank you both for your help on this. 6 Link to comment
