miyakoji
For general information or as a reference source for those of you going on Japanese vacations, the link below should go to a Google-translated version of Japanese Wikipedia’s list of railway museums. There is an English Wikipedia page listing railway museums all over the world, but the list of Japanese museums isn’t as complete. https://ja-m-wikipedia-org.translate.goog/wiki/鉄道博物館の一覧?_x_tr_sl=ja&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp 4 4 Link to comment
Tony Galiani
Ditto. Great stuff and something I will reference for my next trip. Thanks, Tony 1 Link to comment
Rod.H
I think the Hokkaido list is missing a few as I've been watching an IRL streamer on Twitch cycling across it and yes he saw 2 C51's plinthed in a park - which I think is in the list - but there were two more parked in two separate closed stations...ah one is on the list the other isn't. Both are on the Hokkaido Route 1087 Abashiri Tokoro Bicycle Route. Link to comment
miyakoji
@Rod.H those are just museums. If you're looking for statically displayed rolling stock, one thought is to refer to the Japanese wikipedia page about the particular type you're looking for. If you can't input Japanese on your PC, start with the English page, or just find it through a Google search. I've been googling "statically displayed rolling stock in abc prefecture" and not getting a lot results, to my surprise. Link to comment
Rod.H
I know one of the static trains was a partial museum and seasonal accommodation for a village, the other one I'm not 100% on if it was just set up as a memorial. Both were within the footprint of a closed station, both still had some of the station building & platform remaining and it was a mainline steam engine in front of a passenger car at both locations Link to comment
