EF66 symbol question

Hey folks,

I've bought a TOMIX EF66 a while ago and I want to make EF66 27 out of it.

I was wondering what those symbols on the left side underneath the window mean?
EF66 27 seem to have them in the left of those two rectangles, what do they mean and when is the symbol in the left and when in the right position?

Moin Dennis,

These are markings of the depot or ward the locomotives are assigned to. In this case it is "Seki" for the Shimonoseki Driving Office. Why there are two areas for it I don't know, maybe someone else has deeper insights. My guess would be to subdivide even further, but since JRF has fewer depots than JNR maybe they just use one of the two.

The ward tag usually went into the left side holder on many EF66s although I have seen photos of DD51 and DE10s with them in the right. The right one used to sometimes house a blue background with white star mark design when the EF66s were on sleeper train services.

Unit 27 had its ward plate on the left anyway.

In the right I have seen JR mark ones as well as freight waybill tickets if the locos are being delivered in the right holder, like you’d get on a koki or other wagon. Not sure how many designs there are or what most mean other than the sleeper service.

I need to make decals anyway (the JR Freight logos), so I will make some for the ward tag as well. EF66 27 was assigned to Suita Depot of JRF if I'm not wrong? Does anyone can tell me which symbol EF66 27 has in the ward tag?

吹 Sui from Suita

Thanks so much, this really helps! It's kinda hard to find such specific information, when not native in Japanese.
