Question about DCC electrical pickup in Kato 10-106

I've been messing around with the 10-106 to get it DCC-ready but I think I messed it up.

When taking apart the Kato chassis a set of contacts touch the motor tabs they went missing I have no idea where they are. 

 

• My first question is what is the purpose of those contacts I assume they interact with the circuit board on the 10-106 and transfer power to the tabs.
• My second question is can I just solder the appropriate decoder wires to the tab and the correct decoder wires to the wheel wipers and be done? 
• It seems that the decoder is being written to by there is no movement with the throttle.

Can you supply pics and everything?  Not everyone knows what a 10-106 is but if we see it maybe we can know what is what.

Possibly means 11-106? Motor Chassis for B Train shorty?
