Nakano Broadway

This is a video tour inside the Nakano Broadway building in Nakano.  The video was shot August 12, 2020. I think it was shot about 12 Noon which may be early in the day for Nakano Broadway.

This is the home of Mandarake.  Many of us have purchased from Mandarake online, well Mandarake has about 30 stores here, their head office on the fourth floor and their staff only Bagdad Café, a buying center and a shipping and receiving depot.

To reach Nakano Broadway you exit Nakano Station from either the Chuo Rapid line, Chuo-Sobu line or Tokyo Metro Tozai line and walk all the way north through Sun Mall. At the north end of Sun Mall, Nakano Broadway will be across the street.

At one time there were three model train stores in Nakano Broadway: Big Yard, Mandarake, and  Upper Level. I can confirm that Big Yard is still open.

Big Yard is a model train shop on the second floor of Nakano Broadway.  Until 2012 this was a Hobbylland Pochi store, then the name of the store was changed to Big Yard.

The Big Yard website is active.   https://www.e-2ndstage.com/       There is a blog which gives store hour updates.   http://blog.livedoor.jp/big_yard_nakano/

It seems there was a relaxation of masking rules as of March 13, 2023:   From March 13, 2023, it will be voluntary for customers to wear a mask in the store, which we asked for your cooperation. However, for customers who cough or sneeze, we will continue to use his mask, handkerchief, etc.

Level Upper looks to have been quite gentrified since 2019. I always remembered it being rather dim and dingy, like an old cupboard.

I enjoyed my time there. Looks like it has had a decent update also. I remember just a lot of tiles a fluro lights. Very public bathroom vibe.

I like how Mandarake has a split up all the shops. Eg new trains, used trains, new car models, used car models etc etc.

I went to Nakano Broadway for the first time in December last year (2022). The trip was interesting. I purchased a second hand Kato train that I was looking for from Mandarake. Recommended if you are looking for unusual or difficult to find items.

I visited Nakano Broadway while in Tokyo last month.  I actually walked there after visiting the Kato Hobby Center.  Not too far and I do enjoy exploring Tokyo on foot.

This is the front of the model train shop, hard to miss.

And this is what I purchased.  I had been looking for this set since riding this train in 2017 and the price was great.  It was used but in like new condition and I was able to test and inspect everything before buying.  Really happy with this purchase and I got to run this train on a layout setup we recently had.
