Kiha66
From one of the links, the price isn't that crazy, but the listing did give me a good chuckle. Coming to a theater near you this summer, here to save the day, he's MAX GREEN. From this listing Link to comment

trainhoarder
This one's not totally nuts; but it annoys me nevertheless, as it is second hand and clearly has a broken pantograph: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOMIX-N-GAUGE-JR-BLUE-CLASS-EF-66-53-ELECTRIC-LOCOMOTIVE-T12-/132198435621?hash=item1ec7a40b25%3Ag%3APMoAAOSwPh5ZIBCC&_trkparms=pageci%253Ac2849661-860f-11e7-abf8-74dbd180d403%257Cparentrq%253A0265f6f015e0ac8001587bd2fff2d0ac%257Ciid%253A9 I ordered an EF66 WITH two coaches from Japan for not much more than this. It's expensive all right! But the lister DID list out the defects in his description, and also listed as USED, so he wasn't exactly cheating... Guess it's a willing seller willing buyer thingy... hence the need to research before buying.. Link to comment
Kamome
Rails of Sheffield in the U.K. seem to be getting an increasing amount of Kato and Tomix. Their prices are always a bit high for second hand Japanese stuff possibly due to the general lack of availability. Some of their American Kato N gauge is also a bit pricey. As a business, I assume they add in their eBay admin cost so it makes it a lot less attractive. When you think that stockists like Gaugemaster would probably charge £90-£100 for the EF66 new, to those not confident to order from Japan, it becomes more attractive. Link to comment
Kiha66
How much would you pay for some kato Assy wheels? $5? $15? How about $150? Or rather, $156.40. https://www.hobbychimp.com/products/n-gauge-round-house-kato-28-213-spoke-wheel-axle-short-16-pieces Link to comment
Kiha66
One wheel, $3.14, +$6.50 shipping. It would be cheaper to just buy a new freight car... https://www.ebay.com/itm/ROUNDHOUSE-KATO-28-213-Spoke-wheel-1-piece-Short-axle-N-Scale-New/331476614983?hash=item4d2d8bbf47:g:IE0AAOSw8d9U2uyg Link to comment

The shipping is indicated as at a combined flat rate, so it doesn't really matter how many parts you buy. Still $3.14 for a wheel that was sold as a 16 pack for $20, means the original retail price was $1.25 per part. He is selling for 250% of the original bulk price. Link to comment

I bought an EF66 last year from Traintrax and as I recall it was under £70 brand new.More recently I paid £59-20 for an EF64 1000 (Catalogue no 3024-1) there as well.Indeed most of my collection has come from him and I'm quite happy with what I've got! If you subscribe there is often a discount of 5% for under £100 and 10% for over £100. While maybe Still dearer than ordering from Japan,it's still cheaper than Gaugemaster. Also his items are in stock so delivery time is usually 3-4 days. scotspensioner
It's 20% vat to be correct but how about £225 for a 10-833 from Amazon Japan .5 are available! Every Year the Newspapers over here have an outrageous complaint about why prices for items such as clothes perfumes and toys are cheaper in New York than they are in London but they don't mention the 20% Vat.In Germany it's 19% I believe Edited February 1, 2018 by scotspensioner Link to comment

You don't have to pay GST for imported items worth less than $1000. I remember when VAT was introduced in Spain it was 12%. Then they raked it up to 16%... it must be in the 20s now. VAT is paying for deficits in the EU in a rather regressive way. Sorry for the off topic. Link to comment
