According to a quick search this link has not been posted here before, so here goes:

JNR era wagonload freight stock and contemporary private railway stock. If you are interested in traditional rail freight then this website is well worth exploring.

 

Notes:

 

-The site includes freight motors and non revenue vehicles such as maintenance equipment in the definition of freightcar.

-JNR stock is arranged by type but private railway stock by owning company. This makes it a bit awkward to look for specific types and roles of vehicle in the private railway section.

-The archive does not cover everything. I can think of several local railways that had freight services and stock which do not appear on the site.
