A few photos taken last week at Tomix World, Omiya.

These tiny dioramas are a real inspiration to those of us that are space-constrained. Also, I really like the use of the retaining walls to raise the track.

Are these retaining walls part of tomix's diorama parts? I haven't seen them before, but I've seen them recently a few times in videos demoing train lighting, and they look ideal to deal with an elevation change i'm forced to make on my shelftown layout

Yes. They have been out almost two years. It uses Wall wide rail S140:. The embankment can be one piece high and double track or two pieces high and single track.

Thanks!- Was actually assuming they were just simple plates to use on an already sculpted embankment

Wow that is an amazing layout.  Lots of different track levels and the detail is so good, it looks so real no matter what part of the layout you look at from any angle.

Initially I thought what the white boards are there for, but after watching the front view camera video, it actually serves as a really good partition board to separate the diorama so it doesn't look like a boring loop even if it really is one! Nice technic and a great idea!

This is an old layout that once was a simple 1800 x 900  V11 oval with a couple of sidings that was finished as of 2009. In 2015 the modeller added a 1200 x 600 table to expand his layout with a V14 set.

From his production log an article on the changes with a preliminary track plan.

He has a blog with a detailed production log.

Working on the mountain.

Whereas his layout once fairly simple, he has added a S curve with background mountains and an Enoden inspired minor private railway complete with houses right up against the track.

He has a You Tube Channel.     https://www.youtube.com/user/kusatan930/videos

His first video ten years ago. He started simple like the rest of us.

Building a Keikyu layout.   It is a simple mostly hidden single track loop that opens out to a two track island platform station with curved turnouts and a small yard. It is small and simple yet appears to be a much more complicated layout. The details are heavy on modification and repainting.    Video by takusama2100.  There is also a blog with over 500,000 views.   https://takusama2100.blog.fc2.com/

That is the one Toni copied for his layout I'm pretty sure.  Great layout.

Thought it looked familiar, but always worth seeing again.

Lovely scenery and atmosphere, but those tight curves and S-curves gave me whiplash just looking at it.haha! Automated or semi-automated using German N scale electronics?? Those sudden stops!yikes! Lol!

I think that’s not prototypical, yeah. I didn’t want to say something negative about the video, and obviously there’s an awful lot of work gone into the layout and the details, but it’s a shame that the motion of the trains is so extreme.

I saw the layout in Halle a few years ago. It is large layout and has enough potential in vehicle selection. But for me the layout is boring... the design of the city and the train station looks typically German, only visually based on Japan. It was a little disappointed. But there is already another system in Germany which is modular

Brilliant! Simply brilliant!

Man after my own heart, lots of leds tuned way down to get realistic lighting effects! Love the layout drawer! Want to be his guest to play with the layout under the bed!

btw you can do the programmable rgb led strips w.o an arduino if you want, they sell little controllers to shoot change the colors and if you buy the individually addressable led strips you can even do fancy pulsing waves or chase stuff with them.

really nice layout!

Wow lovely thanks for the share! I LOVE the Uniqlo store! Great way to make the shop below the viaduct realistic, and he even added mannequins and the anti-thief alarm at the entrance!

Br,

That's amazing Coromant. Thanks for posting. Someday I'd love to do something like that as part of a two-level subway station complex.

Wow, the work shown by Coromant is excellent. If anything I think the buildings would benefit bit a little bit of weathering as the plastic texture is too evident. Just white makeup powder does miracles with that.

Br,

I missed the animated LCDs the first couple of times I watched this. I wonder what part he's using for that, because it looks amazing.

Edit - found it on the blog. It's a common part, about $10-20 shipped. 0.96 80x160 IPS RGB

These are individually addressable RGB led strips controlled by an arduino board. You can also get hard wired controllers for these strips for like $20mfor a controller and 1-3’ of leds. Each led has a chip that allows it to be addressable in the chain so you can do color changes and fades moving along thenstrip or things like light chases and such. I’m sure there is an arduino Shield and lots of programming out there as these lighting effects are quite popular these days for party rooms and such.

I think he is talking about the 2 panels in the shop front and end windows - best seen from 0.26 in the clip.
