Inspirational Scenery & Layouts

Recommended Posts

Just a quick link drop, but feel free to place any other inspirational layouts here. I often come across very good modelling on the internet, but after a bookmark it disappears in the depths of my bookmark hell.

Hi Densha! Thanks for sharing! I especially love the first linky, whereby the dioramas are created as small scale projects and placed inside 'Daiso' plastic cases! Very innovative, and also helps keep out dust! One can create a variety of dioramas using these cases! Have to salute him for cutting up the original Tomytec structures to fit into the diorama... I will never have the skill and the courage to do that...

Nice! Very identical replica of Ochanomizu station as can be seen here:

Drag to about 04:12 mins whereby the 201 pulls into Ochanomizu station. (Video taken from youtube member dylmhb from Railfan 3 game for the PS3 whereby actual video footage was used)

Compare for yourself! Truely great piece of Diorama work! Thanks Densha for sharing!

That's an incredible module of the station.  Thanks for posting.

The youtube page has a URL to his blog with some photos of the module, as well as some side-by-side comparisons of specific prototype photos he used, and how close some sections of the module are to them (look for the one with the tree by the entrance; amazing work).

This layout may have been posted somewhere before, but I'll post it here anyway.

http://vivant.jp/taichi.htm

This guy made a very detailed layout with a JNR line and a local interurban line. His whole layout is in 1/150 scale using Z gauge to replicate the correct track gauge and changed all axles of the model trains for that. You can browse the site using the menu on the left. These two pages may be of high interest: http://vivant.jp/nj-hatena.htm (comparison between prototype and model gauges) & http://vivant.jp/news.htm (recent updates)

For moving action he also has a Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/vivantmokeiseisakusy

First this one, a combi of N and Z gauge in 1/150 scale modules:

(scroll a bit down for the actual making of the modules)

Then this masterpiece of scenery, it's unbelievable how he is able to make such fantastic looking modelling:

At least at takky levels. He also did some H0 gauge dioramas, they are even more unbelievable; they almost look like the prototype. I'm sure the slight weathering of pretty much everything in both scales also helps to make it look more realistic.

The lastest post a collection of modules. I recognise a few from other people, like the Kao Den (Chaos Dentetsu) modules with bridges and small depot.

Also yeah, this combination of gauges was to represent Japanese narrow gauge (760mm) next to the 'standard' gauge (1,067mm).

Well yeah, the first post is from JAM but I can't link to a category that only features the work of the owner of the blog.

Actually, now that I think about it, it actually features three gauges doesn't it? The standard gauge for the Kintetsu trains, Z gauge for JR and even smaller for the other private railway.

And while we're at it, another interesting layout, well actually no more than a station but it looks pretty nice:

You guys (and gals) may also know this channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/newkiha5828

He's always impressed me with his modelling and video skills like in this video:

(exactly what I am planning on making, a single track with overhead wires going through a rural scenery)

But this video that was just uploaded a few days ago really is awesome:

(it's maybe even better than the legendary Shinkansen to music clip from a while back)

Somehow after just randomly clicking on links and constantly repeating that eventually I always end up on a page with yet another interesting layout.

This time I ended up on this website: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~qn5m-oon/

For some reason the menu links don't work on the main page so this one works correctly: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~qn5m-oon/jpindex.html

Why there are two BBS's is another thing I can't grasp but oh well.

Great find Todd! Is that an original Kato made video? The sound that they added into the video is simply amazing.. Nostaglic!

JR500,

No it's not. This is Youtube user yukikazeful's layout, and he edited the video himself. I've been a subscriber of his for a very long time, and his videos have actually been posted on this forum a few times already. Nonetheless it's still amazing stuff he's done, really inspirational. :)

Ah I remember that layout when I found the website years back. Good stuff over there, it's so very detailed.

Musashino-styled module and another inspirational module (also featured in the latest N-gauge Magazine #59) in the 2nd half of the video. At the end some examples of other, less interesting, modules.

Very realistic setup and hugely inspirational! I'll definitely incorporate extreme height-differences in streets in my future projects! Nothing more Japanese than streets going up and down next to a level rail track (especially in less heavily urbanised areas.).

These videos were recorded at "The 5th National High School Model Railroad Contest":

Very interesting stuff. I also like the use of sakura air freshener of those girls! ;) The aquarium modules were weird but awesome. Also, Spirited Away layout!

There were two Americans (I think they were judges) at the award ceremony, I just skipped through the video and I can't understand all the Japanese but it's interesting to see foreigners at such an event.
