Locos and rolling stock on R216 curves

The vast majority of locomotives and rolling stock in Kato's catalogues have an R249 minimum curve radius requirement, but I've seen various people indicate some can get down quite a bit lower.  I'm looking to build something using R216 curves, and I wanted to know if anyone has had any practical experience with say, an EF64 or DE10 and 3 standard size coaches?  What about Tomix trains?

Perhaps they would run on a mixed R249 and R216 curve?

The Ginza line Series 01 has been run on Unitram R183 tracks at shows.  https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10150095

List of Tomix trains that will run R103(Suoer Mini Curve) or R140 (Mini Rail) https://www.tomytec.co.jp/tomix/products/smc-mc-list.html

Kato has a list of R150 compatible rolling stock. Tomix has a similar list of R140 compatible ones. Most Tomytec trains could run on R140.

What i found was that almost all of my japanese non shinkansen rolling stock could run on R177, but most of them don't have body mount close couplers installed. The largest loco i managed to run on R177 is a Kato EF58.

Body mount non kinematic couplers could be a problem though, especially on longer two axle cars and S curves.

Thanks bill937ca and kvp.

That Tomix list is reasonably comprehensive, and gives a really good idea of what will run.

I'm not worried about items that are explicitly listed as mini-curve compatible - I'm more interested in items that say that they require R249 but can still run OK on R216.

Probably not, but it would be good to get an idea of people's experiences.

You've got R216 on the inner curve of your layout, don't you katoftw?  How do various locos run on that?

I've found that locomotives are often quite happy with smaller radius curves. More often than not it's what they're pulling (or pushing) which causes problems, particularly with buffered stock and close(r) couplings, which have a tendency to bind. Personally I've settled on 280mm radius Tomix track as the absolute minimum for anything which isn't a tram, though I suspect if I were only running non-Shinkansen Japanese stuff, 243mm would also work. YMMV.

Never finished that layout. But the only trains I ran on the R216 curve were tomytec keihan 600s 700s.

If I could ask a favour... would someone be able to run a Kato EF64 or EF81 and 3x 10 series coaches around 180 degrees of R216 and let me know how it goes?

Also perhaps a DE10 with a KOKI or two?
