EF57
First my mini-mayhem layout. Fun to keep the trains from crashing. Both lines have the same power source, so turning it off stops all trains. It’s much harder with two power packs. Possibilities for expansion galore .... EF57
then a transfer table, got the idea from C. Arendt: (not really Japanese, I admit) Edited April 21, 2018 by EF57 3 Link to comment
EF57
Then there’s my little Japanese cutie in the bedroom .... Note the reverse curves, they add so much visually! Edited April 24, 2018 by EF57 2 Link to comment
EF57
For my main layout I copied VJM’s plan from this forum. The crazy third loop which seems to change direction really makes trainwatching fun. Size has been reduced to 90 by 210 cm. = 3 by 7 feet. Height above floor is 132 cm. = 4 feet 4. In the background is the HOn peninsula. Edited April 24, 2018 by EF57 7 Link to comment
EF57
Then my Myceaean body-shield mini-viaduct with reverse curves (fun to watch the trains tipping back and forth on the superelevations) and hardly a straight: Edited April 21, 2018 by EF57 4 Link to comment
cteno4
Ouch a torture test on the couplers! They must look really bank back and forth! That’s what is so great about unitrak and fine track, you can play with any idea in minutes! Have you tried shinkansens on it? Many don’t like the S curves much, interesting to see what they do on it with like an 8 car train with the super elevated curves. Fun! jeff Link to comment
EF57
Oh yes almost forgot my double spiral, making use of all the kato radii that I had. The run was over 5 meters long. The rolling stock is Minitrains HOn — great stuff. 1 Link to comment
EF57
Jeff, I have played with even more extreme s-curves— no problems, Arnold or Shibata. The trains look great whipping about. 3 Link to comment

EF57
Hey thanks Khaul, I take that as a compliment! I’ve long enjoyed your contributions here. A good time to mention that with viaducts, I like to substitute one piece of regular slab track to get a kind of inspection “pit” where I can re-rail and check couplers easily. 4 Link to comment
EF57
Another good thing about viaducts will be appreciated by those who have watched their trains falling from the table on to an uncarpeted floor: nothing is going to fall off of these babies. However the same fact can lead to some shady practices in the name of squeezing the maximum run out of a limited space (an egregious example with concrete tie track about 10 posts above): Edited April 26, 2018 by EF57 3 2 Link to comment

That's a great solution to a common viaduct problem. Link to comment

EF57
An egg shape, with constantly changing radii. I don’t usually mix Nj and HOn, but it just happened. In general, these photos are not set up to look good or show off equipment, they were just taken at random during the life of the layout to record it in a vague way for my own purposes. Some I may not have recorded at all, who knows? Taken with my Ipad. 1 Link to comment

EF57
I have been improving my hanging storage of test loops. The frontmost is onetruescale‘s brilliant unitram test layout, see his post of dec. 25, 2018. 6 Link to comment
