domino
Hey all. Im planning to convert to DCC in the future, and have ,as some may say ,a stupid question , in order to maybe someday return to DC I was wondering hypothetically/theoretically if it is possible to glue/hot glue and/or tape the decoder in place instead of soldering it ?? Martijn Meerts
The only way to install a decoder without soldering would be to use drop-in decoders. Unfortunately, drop-in decoders for Japanese trains aren't very common. Link to comment
alpineaustralia
All of the following trains will accept Plug n' Play decoders that do not "need" to be soldered (although often the contac that the decoder has is not very reliable and so soldering becomes a solution for it to work properly): Item No. Model Decoder 3020-7, 3038 EF58 Digitrax DN163KOa DF200 Digitrax DN163KOa EF60 Digitrax DN163KOa EF64-0 Digitrax DN163KOa 3024 EF64-1000 Digitrax DN163KOa 3032-1, 3019-6, 3019-8, 3019-9, EF65 Digitrax DN163KOa 3036-1 EF200 Digitrax DN163KOa 3034, 3034-3 EF210 Digitrax DN163KOa ED75 Digitrax DN163KOa 3021-1, 3021-4, EF81 Digitrax DN163KOa 3037-1 EH500 Digitrax DN163KOa 10-289 101-series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-296, 10-297 209-500 series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-261, 10-262 E231-500 series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-520, 10-521 E231 series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-551, 10-552, 10-553 E231 series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-541, 10-542 E233 series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-287 321-series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-536, 10-537 223 series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-525, 10-526, 10-280 E531 series EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-498 731 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-547, 10-548, 10-549 N700 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-278, 10-279 E2 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-221 E3 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-292, 10-293 E4 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-295, 10-533 10100 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-534, 10-535 44 (cars) EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-499 201 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) 10-550 82 EM13 (10-351), FL12(10-352), FR11(10-353) Link to comment
domino
Hey Martijn, maybe you would like to visit me here in Denmark and fix all my trains by solder decoder in all of them, i see that you have some experience with that Brian domino Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
Hey Martijn, maybe you would like to visit me here in Denmark and fix all my trains by solder decoder in all of them, i see that you have some experience with that Brian domino I've installed a few decoders, but not all of them went entirely like they should. Some loco's already have their 3rd decoder because I fried the first 2. I wouldn't mind installing decoders for others, but the problem is that if something goes wrong, I need to someone make up for that. If a decoder gets fried, it's no problem, I can just get a new one. However, there are (small) chances that the train itself gets ruined, and those are a bit more difficult to replace, especially the special models. Link to comment
domino
ok then, just checking, i will try it my self domino Link to comment

Brian take a look at some of his decoder installs, not only do you not see the decoder but he paints the wires so they're not visible to the naked eye. But I do understand your concerns Marti I wished the guy at my LHS installed decoders like you do. Link to comment
domino
I did look at his installations, that is why i asked him to come to Denmark and help me domino Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
After I'm done moving and have set up a "work station" for my own trains, I'll happily help out others with installs and possibly repairs. But I won't/can't take full responsibility if something should go wrong. The chance of something going badly wrong isn't all that big though ;) Link to comment
