From Japan Today; Fire started in a nearby house and spread to Miki Station, near Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture.

The sad news is that they found the body of the missing person.

Sad was hoping they were just away for a day or two.

These fires are common in winter (they seemingly occur daily here in Hokkaido)- almost always at a residence of an elderly person.  Something catches fire (from a space heater etc.) the dryness of the season further exacerbates the spread of the fire, and the elderly person is incapacitated and cannot escape.  In this case probably sparks or falling debris from the rapidly burning old wooden residence fell on the station building and quickly caught fire, and as the station is unstaffed, no staff was there to respond quickly with a fire extinguisher (if that was even an effective option).

Sad to hear this.  

 

My SIL used to live in Miki.   Even though she has moved away, it still hits close to home when you recognize the name of the place from having been there.
