bikkuri bahn
These fires are common in winter (they seemingly occur daily here in Hokkaido)- almost always at a residence of an elderly person. Something catches fire (from a space heater etc.) the dryness of the season further exacerbates the spread of the fire, and the elderly person is incapacitated and cannot escape. In this case probably sparks or falling debris from the rapidly burning old wooden residence fell on the station building and quickly caught fire, and as the station is unstaffed, no staff was there to respond quickly with a fire extinguisher (if that was even an effective option). chadbag
Sad to hear this. My SIL used to live in Miki. Even though she has moved away, it still hits close to home when you recognize the name of the place from having been there. Link to comment
