Pauljag900
I knew they were there somewhere!! Why is everything your looking for in the last box you look in?👍😂😂 i started collecting these a few years ago one at a time when I had reason to go into the town Center.then I went Japanese and they ve been in the shed ever since. i m going to use them on the latest module at the back, not very Japanese but nice models and probably should nt be in a box. the cream s jaguar and the off white limo will be in the church as wedding cars,Tomytec wedding figures on order. 3 Link to comment

Pauljag900
This is the night view from the shed doors. Next project is to illuminate the yard on the right hand side. i ve ordered 20 yard lights which will be another two weeks yet,I think once they re in place there should be enough light to run the Trains and be able to see them ok. 16 Link to comment

Das Steinkopf
Well not strictly working on a layout but certainly prepping items for use on a future layout, today I finally decided to get stuck into my forklifts and add the detail parts as well as doing some detail painting and weathering on them. I know a lot of people aren’t overly fond if the Kato forklifts but with a little bit of work they can actually be turned into decent looking models. I currently have an FD300 Toploader and two FD115’s, I also have another two FD115’s on order to add to the fleet, they will all get used in a container yard when I get around to doing it. 11 Link to comment

AllScales
Finalising the trackplan.... There are some gaps so it’s back to get the stuff to fill in the gaps. One thing I’m still looking for is point switches... if need be, can I use Kato Switches with Tomix points? Are there other possibilities? 1 Link to comment

Yes you can, well I did, but you ll need some of the kato plugs that are on the end of the kato points,or any of the kato plugs will do. simply cut the plugs off the Tomix points and fit the kato ones,I fixed mine by simply wrapping the wires together and using heat shrink.Make sure and test them before heat shrinking to make sure they open and close the correct way around. hope this helps. i m not sure but I may have some spare kato plugs, let me know how many you need and I ll check. paul 1 Link to comment

Are the black stripes decals? Or did you paint them on? Technique? Link to comment
NXCALE
Hi all. Working on my layout, I decided to use the Tomix 4043 building (cos' I already have it) but its bright green color and lack of details dont help. Has anyone modified the Tomix 4043 building or got any ideas how to improve it? Cheers. Link to comment

The black stripes are already on the model, there are a number of decals that you need to put on the model such as the vehicle number. Some of the decals are too big for the model which is rather frustrating, such as some warning script in red that goes on the side near the back wheel set. The main thing with these models is painting the add on details such as the mirrors, exhaust pipes, GPS antenna and the handrails on the FD300, all of these come in plain black and with a little bit of paintwork brings them to life. 1 Link to comment

They deserve to run on something like this instead. 1 Link to comment

No, but I bookmarked this about another similar-ish building: https://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/aindanet/32397591.html which might have some ideas. 1 Link to comment

My sense of balance sometimes packs up when making sudden movements. I think you can guess what might happen after that! 3. I’m planning to fit overhead wires. OK so that’s three, but who’s counting? I've seen lots of older (60-80s) type buildings in Japan with all sorts of colors. If you want to de-shiny-ify it and weather it so it doesn't look plasticky. Some signs (by the door / entrance) as well as on the top piece, and if you are the inside detail sort, something on the inside. If you don't want to put anything on the inside, hang some semi-see through type signs or film on the inside that make it look like a modern window film or windwo film signage is applied (like you see on stores and busses and stuff where people can see out but not really in). Thanks for the link. I see that inside detais can make a difference, maybe some charis and desks. I also saved the link for future reference. 4 hours ago, chadbag said: I have not, but I don't see the color as a problem. I guess that Tomix chose that color for a reason. However, the green color is not really appealing and my layout is not aiming to look like realistic (just something that I can enjoy seeing and operating). So, I am considering to paint it on gray or something like that. Also weathering is a good idea. I think I can print some signs to see how it looks. I will check some pictures of buildings to see how and where to place the signs. Thanks for the ideas. 1 Link to comment
gavino200
Concerns about social unrest abound in Layoutland. A new "tough on crime" right-wing government is elected. Additional squad cars and paddywagons are acquired. 2 4 Link to comment
Welshbloke
With regards to mixing and matching points and control levers, look for the extension cables offered by Kato as a source of plugs. I understand that you can get the Kato connectors elsewhere but that they're often not quite right, their own extension cables aren't that expensive. One other thing which will keep the cost down, look at ganging multiple points onto one switch. I find two Kato points will throw reliably from a single switch using their three way splitter extension, and use this for loops where you want to throw both ends at once. 3 Link to comment
