It is made so you can slide the decoder between the pickup rail and that round thing with the spring. Or not. And it works in both cases -- with and without a decoder. What you did should probably work but if you ever decide to go DCC you may have problems :) Hi buddy, thanks for that but rest assured I wo nt be going dcc😂😂👍👍 I m quite happy running with dc and be honest I quite like doing the track cleaning and maintenance side of things, also I think dcc is an absoloutely fantastic concept for multiple train running but I think mines a bit too small to run more than one train per loop. Kiha66
Not layout related, but I cleared out my bookshelves today and got all my train cases out of the storage boxes. Now they are all much more accessible. 8 Link to comment
Kiha66
I also found a home for the ones in jewel cases. 6 Link to comment

So just pre-empt it and get both the new trainset and the new book case all at once. Edited April 30, 2018 by chadbag 1 7 Link to comment
serotta1972
He still has a couple of shelves with books, he’ll get rid of those to make more room for trains. 😀 1 3 Link to comment

Yavianice
I have the same exact bookcase methinks, from IKEA. But mine is bigger. But just as full. 1 Link to comment
Pauljag900
The last pieces of track I needed for the freight yard finally arrived today along with a couple of fork lift trucks and some barrels and crates. The plan is for a petro chemical plant along the back with a freight platform and road in the middle.I m hoping I can fit a third siding in but not really holding out much hope😂 Edited May 2, 2018 by Pauljag900 Link to comment

Pauljag900
Hi Gavin, yeah, and the shed s getting smaller and smaller!😂 I ve bought a cheap backscene for behind the freight yard,it s not very good ,like a hand painted thing, cheap and nasty but better than nothing I guess. It ll only be temporary until I decide what to do.The likelyhood is that I ll get rid of the mirrors sometime in the next year.Logistically it s going to be a bit of a nightmare due to the height differences.I ve found some that come in 4 x10’ sections and are 15” high which will be plenty long enough to run all around but I m just worried about the colour diference at The joins, also they re meant for ho Gauge so they ll have to be scenic with no buildings etc so there wo nt be any reference to the Gauge,if that makes sense. paul Link to comment
Pauljag900
The cheap and nasty dockside backscene arrived this morning so fitted it as I guess it s better than looking at a load of wires. not sure how much of it will be seen once the buildings are on there so final decision will be made then as to wether it goes or stays👍😀 4 Link to comment

Pauljag900
Gents, can anyone offer me some advice please, i ve got a couple of no 6 points/switches that are a bit sticky, probably due to lack of use, they work but stick a bit every now and again and only move halfway so I m guessing they may need a bit of lubricant but not sure where I should put it,can anyone advise please? thanks in advance paul Link to comment
Khaul
Today I went back to work in my modules. Not much, but after a couple of months of travel and other distractions it felt good to be back at the bench. I mean the kitchen table. I did a bit of ballasting and installed fences and gutter on the side of the track. I still need to put a bit of ballast between the gutter and the track, then retouch and weatherise. I left a hole for a signal so it can be put on and off easily. Next is to install the lights in the buildings and integrate the shrine scene. quite some work. 7 Link to comment
bill937ca
Tear down of the old layout is complete. I have placed what track I have on the layout. I have all the turnouts already. I am mainly missing S18.5, S33, S99 and S158.5 pieces which have been ordered. Maybe in a week or two. 5 Link to comment
AllScales
Have been working on track for the station. Really should have read the PECO catalogue 1 x ST-11 = 3 x ST-2, not 4. Grrrrr!!!!! Link to comment
railsquid
Teensy-weensy bit more scenic work around the tunnel portals. tunnel-scenery-progress by Rail Squid, on Flickr Fence is not fixed in place yet, this is an interim shot to check it's generally in the right position. Loco is a Kato ED16 for anyone taking notes. 4 Link to comment
bill937ca
I adjusted the original plan today freeing up two C140-30 curves by using P140-30 turnouts instead of the curve. Saves curves and saves space. The main line now has a complete path including through the multi track transfer station. The yard is now more complete. Still need some additional pieces, but this is progress. Also part of the transfer station platforms is in place to test clearances. 4 Link to comment
Pauljag900
Last week when having a sort out and tidy up in the shed I found a box of buildings I d forgotten about. this is where all the lights are fed from for the whole layout so need to see if I can find a way to disguise the wiring using the buildings on a lift out section. 2 Link to comment
Pauljag900
5mm foamcard covered in tarmac effect card with buildings placed loosely in position. buildings are a bit battered and bruised but should be ok once finished. 11 Link to comment
