What did you do on your layout today? (N scale)

Laid the track and temporarily set it up and ran the trains.

i had the original of this pocketline steam train and it ran terrible, this one with the new power unit is much better especially at slower speeds.

For a cheap train I can t  believe how smooth this 103 runs.

will run it for a while and make sure there s no issues with the tight curves then I ll add in a crossover and some sidings

Taking a break from brick laying today and working on the Shinkansen viaduct.

This will section is on the station approach just south of Yurakucho. The viaduct is on a gentle curve as its height increases from 37mm up to around 55mm ready to terminate at Tokyo.

The deck is made from 23 sections 3D printed in resin and bonded together.

Kamome, this looks like a super interesting and useful project. I'd love to learn more about it. Is there any chance that you'd be able to make a tread out of it sometime. I bet I'm not the only one who'd like to learn from this.

Kamome,

really nice. I’ve often thought about extruded ps printers would be great for doing decks and piers and assemble bits rather than trying to print it all as one complete chunk which can have support issues.

gavino200 - It has been a fun one to design and build for sure, I am going to start a thread about the layout tomorrow. I am more than happy to start it off with some details about making the viaduct.

Jeff - It has been a bit of an experiment really, this section is about a meter long when stuck together the only way I could think of doing it was in bits. What worked well was being able to print each section standing on its end so it used no support material. I was also able to row up three segments across the print bed and that saved a lot of time.

The printer is a Photon that uses UV curing resin, this meant that I could stick the parts together with more resin using it like a brush on glue and then putting a UV torch over the join to cure it (I used a clear resin so the light could get to the middle of the join).

Yeah, that counts. That's a super interesting project. In fact, I'm sure a lot of people would be interested if you made a thread out of this describing the whole process. I bet there are others who would follow the trail you're blazing. And it might even help you with your minimum order issue.

I'll try to write up something and put it in a thread.

I spent some time today prepping for the weekend. A lot of the arches have one or more AC units mounted on the wall above and beside entrances. There will be well over 100 of the little critters by the time the layout is finished. I have a few more to make so that it doesn't get repetitive. I will test print them tomorrow or Sunday then make any necessary adjustments.

Just a bit of fancy storages, placed near my medical volumes. It makes used starter set trains look fancier.

Great idea! Are those acrylic boxes to house the starter sets? How do they fit so perfectly?  🙂

Wow those are nice! Would you have a few of these industrial grade AC compressors (VRV type)😛

The final piece of track arrived this morning, the crossover.

feeling quite smug for getting three loops in on a 5x3 board, even if the curves are ridiculously tight😂😂😂

managed to fit in a 117 rad loop for the railbus which will run around the station,

it’s gonna be fun trying to connect the road up alongside the storage yard😂😂

JR 500系 - many thanks. I will indeed be making plenty of the industrial grade AC's. I did a quick scan of some photos and one building has about 18 AC units on its roof, five of them being VRV's. At this rate I may ask Daikin to sponsor me!

Here are the results of the test print:

There are couple of little tweaks needed but for a first attempt I am pretty happy.

Over the weekend I glued the track down, added some roads and ground cover,

next job will be to ballast the tracks once the buffers arrive I can fix the sidings in place.

Added a shelf to the front,3rd controller on its way, then it ll be time to sort this lot out and hide it all underneath!😂😂

I ve worked out I can fit a single viaduct track on using 249 rad curves but I need to see if I can kitbash the cheap Kato overhead station to mount a platform up above rather than on ground level as all the track needs to be elevated.

So here s my thoughts/idea,

this is The overehead station for use with an island platform. The main staircases fit on the end opening on each side with the shorter stairs in the Center opening down to the platform.

i m wondering if I place the main staircase In the Center opening could I then put the platform in front of the opening on the right? So it looks like that’s the exit to the platform.

I mention this as I d welcome any other ideas or if anyone knows if this would work😂😂👍

You'll have to do some kitbashing I think. The main stair won't fit on the middle portion.

Just some simple cutting to widen the middle opening; and if you cut carefully, that piece can fill in the gap where the narrow stairs are going.

Practiced amputating figures and putting peeps inside my DRG passcar

Tomytec figures looking outside the window, cheaper ones are within.

1/150 surgery! Smart putting nice ones in the windows! Same works on sidewalks and such.

have you looked at the pickups on the wheels and the pickups on the chassis? These can get dirty (usually the wheel pickups) or out of alignment (usually the chassis pickups).
