What did you do on your layout today? (N scale)

I've spent the last couple of days tweaking the scenery, adding some bits and removing others. Also installed a few minor details and now I consider the layout about 95% finished since vehicles and people are pretty much all that the "Tsubuden" still needs. Later on I may go back and add still more detail stuff like junk piles etc. but right now I'm already starting to think about another mini layout, maybe a bit larger this time and with a small town setting instead of a rural one.

I've been laying out the track, for the three stations using some old Peco track I found in a box.

Turns out I only needed to buy one more point to complete them. I think I'll stick with Peco Setrack as it he points are short enough to let me fit everything into the required dimensions! With Kato or Tomix track this just doesn't seem to be possible.

This week will be spent trying to arrange the bits in between and tidying up the track lifted from an old layout the never went anywhere...

This was last week's school project. He had to make a box to put cards in. He got to choose the theme. Now it sits in the train room. It's for "donations" for new trains.

Coromant made me a fence/wall for a cemetery to my T-trak modul, so we started to play how to organize the graves. I glued 2 catenary pole holders, built 2 houses from Tomytec kits and made a styrol strip to the graves and weather it. Everything in pictures:

Not much time this WE...

Found some Kato 11-702 knuckle couplers in my box and decided to mod a Tomix Koki which I also have for some time now.

Works quite good, however I had to put in again the small spring (contrary to the Kato instructions). Without the spring, the knuckle "rattled" a bit in the Tomix coupler pocket.

Photo shows the final test on my bench, Momotaro had to check...

Back onto the club 3.0 layout. All the module bases cut out today. Lots of cutting big pieces of wood into small ones! Assembly starts Monday.

Did some trouble shooting on the number four right turnout, which consistently caused derailment on a few of my trains. Changed out to another one and same issue. The trains run fine on the same but mirror left turnout on the opposite side. Really weird. Couldn't figure out the problem at the end, and just swapped with a #6 turnout instead.

Back to more progress on the club modules. We got about a third of the 40 some odd put together tonight! Amazing thing so far all our measurements and peg system seem to be popping right in!

Cheers

Meanwhile, deliberations continue as to how to ameliorate this ca. 1 foot (30cm) step from street level to the station. Please ignore the masking tape on the roof, it's been there for the last 6 months while I finally get round to finishing touching up this Tomix classic. Please also ignore the mildly levitating koban to the right,

Looking really good Squid, the multi level design of the layout and the steep narrow streets have a really realistic countryside look to it

More modules, there must be more modules! The 4 end modules needed special peg holes on the site to link in the front and back modules. Only 4 more to go for the Shinkansen yard, but they need some mods as part of each goes over the yard for the ground level tracks... next it's onto the support grid. I screwed up its 30 modules total.

Converted my recently acquired rake of Taki 1000s to the Kato coupler (11-107). Doesn't narrow the gap much but enough so the couplers no longer look oversized and out of place.

You are far more organised then me when it comes to things like this. Those wagons are certainly improved by changing the couplings...I really ought to set about doing this on mine.

Looking good squid!

I wouldn't say the step up from the road to the station entrance is too high... cause judging from the parked van, it is around the same height to climb up the driver side of the van and to climb up the step.... however, usually the van comes with a handle to pull yourself up when you climb into the van so... Perhaps if you are bothered by this you can saw off a step on the right side of the entrance? But then again you will need a railing... Or you could also saw off a gradient ramp running sideways into the station, and can even pass it off as a 'for wheelchair' access... Place a man with a trolley beside the van and it can be passed off as making a delivery into the shop inside the station ~  :)

Jeff, you're a module making machine!

They are pretty quick and easy to make, it's just taken more time to have Matthew here to assemble as they are a number of sizes and we have a peg system to hold things together to keep straight so having two heads making sure we don't screw up on the assembly!

The 12mm Baltic birch is working well, love the stuff! Saw is as well!

Almost finished my module for the Layout Award 2017 for Yonanjima Art Factory. Out of the contendants, 10 will be rewarded with their module being exhibited in Hamamatsuchō Station. I'll do some extra detailing a little bit, but I think it's a good filler module which doesn't do too much extra to stand out.

With the Skytree Train and 6050 on there, it gets a little Tōbu Nikkō line feeling.

The shop session today didn't really give me any details to purchase for the module... Although I'd have liked to have weathered the roads a bit, it's good to go.

I managed to spend some time on Sunday working how to do the power for the various stations in my layout...

I had to go back to basics and draw diagrams as it's the first time I'm doing analogue in a very, very, very long time!

Toni,

Swipe some of your wife's makeup to weather the roads! Don't tell her I told you to do this though, if you are caught JNS will disavow any knowledge of your action. This post will self destruct in 10 seconds...
