I like it! A simple and easy idea yet looks really nice! Great idea to re-use the car parking base of the Kato restaurant in another way!

Of course you can😂😂👍But these are all I have at the moment sammy so are only fixed on with blue Tac and will eventually be replaced with decent ones,plus not quite sure how much of it will be seen once back on the layout,will post a pic later with it back on the layout👍😀

Side view is better,the whole thing is wired on one plugable connector and just lifts off to access the wiring underneath.

While I didn't actually build the layout, I did massive packing and clearing out stuff... and chanced upon something that I had long forgotten I had... 

 

 

 

 

Had a little fun assembling it, and applying those decals! Look really cool sitting on top of any building! 

 

 

So, what do we do with the extra decals left over? We suddenly have some strange ideas...

Never throw your left over decals away,there s always a use for them somewhere😂😂

i ve got this one on my radar for on top of the police building,it has working rotors,not sure about the paint job but I can soon re paint it buddy👍😀

I d vowed not to do any ballasting on this layout as I m prone to changing my mind😂😂 and it damages the track when removing it so I chose a groundcover that looked something like ballast.However,having done the small village yesterday I felt it needed blending in,so,As as I was in the mood for scenics and nothing better to do I thought I may as well do the rest of the front of the layout,grass,trees and bushes.

Having some greenery changes everything - wow Paul, you just sprinkled some green stuff and ballast and viola.  Looks great! :)

Following our last display of the AsiaNRail layout at the Hiller Museum in April, we decided that we were really tired of dealing with joiner tracks to connect the modules together. Encouraged by the success of a couple of test interfaces on Brad Myer's AsiaNRail modules, and taking a cue from our friends at Freemo-N, I'm now in the process of upgrading all my modules to flush-end interfaces.

We use Peco code 55 track as our standard, and this track is pretty bullet proof. I just carefully measure the required additional track needed at each interface and then cut it from our old joiner tracks, which are already ballasted. The new interfaces require only a minimum touch up to the ballast. To help prevent any flange snags at the new interfaces, I carefully chamfer the inside corner of each railhead at the interface a couple of millimeters to help guide the wheels across the joints. This saves a lot of frustration, especially with wheelsets with a knife-edge flange profile.

On the few 2-track interfaces we have, it's important to be get track centerline spacing precise. With the help of the Peco no. 336 6-foot way gauge, this is easy. The track centers are 26.5mm apart. I also made a brass gauge that is even sturdier and fits onto the top of the two tracks to hold them in place at the correct spacing while the glue dries.

I'm also taking the opportunity to check all the turnout machines for mechanical and electrical function. We use Electrofrog Peco turnouts with the frogs wired to either the Tortoise machine contacts or one set of contacts on the 3PDT toggle switches we use to control the rotary motors or manual controls, as in our staging [Steijing] yard.

I've also rebuilt a couple of the narrower module interfaces for better alignment when clamping. Having flush interfaces makes this more critical.

So far, I've completed several of the smaller modules - 10 out of what will total about 35 modules - and will have them all ready in plenty for our next outing with the layout at the annual Train Days event at the Los Altos History Museum on September 15 and 16, 2018.

got this from jr500 a few years ago and never quite knew what to do with it till now.

it s going to be a snack bar/cafe for the lorry drivers and workers on the freight yard.

Removed the bogies and l ve fitted lights to the inside and will put some figures an d a couple of street lights on there when I get some.

Started painting the rails with Tamiya red-brown yesterday.  I did my first test run on the outer loop (main line) this morning. Still so much to do.

After equal amounts of swearing and hot glue I managed to complete the basic framework for the mountain module.👍😂

put it back on the layout and removed it again to check for clearance,ran all  trains to also check for clearance,all good.

 Had to butcher the tunnel entrances slightly to fit them but four are now in place.The two ground level are going to have to be made somehow with it being four tracks.

Paul buddy, I just have 1 question... do you have any access doors in that tunnel? Worry about trains derailing in there...

Hi Sammy,

thanks for your kind words Sammy, means s a lot buddy. It s also important to remember that at the moment I m recovering from surgery so I ve no work getting in the way of progress on the layout😂😂ha ha.plus I ve nothing better to do😂😂

no access doors planned as yet but will fit them in if I can.However,the whole thing is foamcard frame and will now be constructed with wire mesh and plaster cloth so will be very lightweight and I ve designed it so the whole thing just lifts up and off.I m going to fit something to it that will enable me to hang it on a hook or shelf at the back of the layout while I clean or retrieve Trains.I have run the shinkansens at full speed around that bend and so far they have nt derailed as the curves are banked,I never run at full speed anyway but the grandkids sometimes just can t resist it as they re so young ha ha.

Think I ve solved the problem of the four track tunnel.One of them has to sit at an angle so needs to be slightly wider than the four tracks.

i found two peco double track portals so I cut them to make two halves then glued and braced them with a tiny drill bit at the back and just put some scenics over the joins.Hopefully will look ok once on the layout.
