I had planned to add an airport (or at least part of one) to my layout. I had almost given up on the idea because i could not find anything that seemed realistic enough... but then i came across this:

Now I HAVE to find a way of fitting this into my layout... dont know if it interests anyone else, but thought i'd share.

Also here are some animated billboards for topping off a highrise or office building. Dont know how you could stretch this to fit in with a japanese layout but they are cool!

Darren,

Bakatronics is a great source for some simple little kits do do various lighting animations. i have a few put away to do some fiberoptic lighting on my thatre and such. they 5mm leds so you can just attach bundles of fiber optics to them to do small lights on the outside of structures.

i think their signs may be miller engineering kits. these are great and there are kits you can cut up your own electroluminescent panels to make interesting displays. only problem with them is they dont show up well under bright lighting conditions. doug coster did a couple for setagaya and they were not very noticeable with his bright display lighting.

I thought Microatronics signs were good but this are great!

Do they have barber poles in Japan? (That's my favorite)

barber poles are manufactured in japan!

only problem is this 1.5" tall sign is like 19' tall! would be quite a sign on top of a small shop, but then odd things like that usually have a prototype somewhere in japan -- thats one of the joy of modeling japan!

cheers

Here's a double barreled barber pole in Japan (turned sideways by the photographer).

Here's a barber pole on an N scale layout.

Thanks bill! the double barrel one is almost nauseating in the action!

If folks have never seen Rick Spano's animations you should check them out. he does amazing little n scale animation scenes. my dream in retirement is to do these sorts of things!

Benard posted these a while back in another thread that lead to a discussion on animation on layouts.
