Front 'pilot' missing from Roundhouse 10-908 167 Series Accomu

To all,

In Australia we call them pilots, in America they were cow-catchers... for steamers anyway.

In Japan, what do they call them?

I picked up a 167 Series and both end cars are missing their pilots + couplers.

No spares in the cases.

Am hoping to find replacement items from 1999 or Poppondetta, but would love to know if anyone knows how to find them?

More like a 1960ies school excursion set with 2+3 seating used until around 2000. They were recently released by tomix in their old jnr paint of yellow+red.

Yeah I realize that the 167 goes back several decades, I just mean this 'accomodation' refresh/livery.

This pic was taken April 1, 2000 if it was tagged accurately: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB:JRE-167-H16.JPG

Based on the table a bit down from this link https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9B%BD%E9%89%84165%E7%B3%BB%E9%9B%BB%E8%BB%8A#JR.E6.9D.B1.E6.97.A5.E6.9C.AC Tamachi Depot had 5 formations, H12 through H16 (H14 had square headlights, I was never really a fan of that :)), and they were retired and scrapped after some overnight services to Ogaki (was it called the Moonlight Nagara at that point?) in Spring 2003.

Here's an interior pic from a 167 series, this is tagged 1991, so if it was new around then, that's basically what I would have expected: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB:JRE-EC167-inside-R51-reclining-seat.jpg

Thanks for the info. When did they get rebuilt?

ps: Roundhouse models are almost always based on another, more common set, so i think the front skirts/couplers could be a shared part.

Thanks all. The term has helped my searching.

Can't find anything in stock though.

Might send a personal email to Poppondetta.

It is a really nice model and without the skirts looks naked.

They look remarkably like the skirts on the Kato 165 Series.

If they are the same part then there are two components involved, a dummy tightlock coupler (which clips to the floor) and the skirt itself which clips over that. The idea being that you can unclip it and fit the skirt to a replacement bogie with a working coupler, to run more than one set in multiple. If you look up the 165 Series on their website there should be a link to an exploded diagram with parts listed.

Being Kato, like many manufacturers, they would have parts usable from other models.  Just a little picture research and time should net you a result you are looking for.  A later released 167 or similar age 165 as exampled above.

You think it'd be that easy :)

I've been scouring google images and have only just come across an actual shot of the part I am after.

Much less a part number. I've been through a few shopping sites, but it seems that they now only sell the replacements with the hooks/tabs on the outer edge. Not the two pins on the inside.

Might have to buy these and just glue them on.

Actually, it seems that the common thing to do is to replace with bogie-mounted skirt/coupler combos:
