Speaking of NYC and tunnels, there's always the mythical cow tunnels under 12th Avenue, which might still be there - if they ever really existed.

kvp posted one site, but I found about a dozen that all seem to reference the same material.  There are blueprints of a tunnel the Pennsylvania RR built circa 1932 to serve a two-story concrete cattle pen they built.  There are also reports of at least one wooden one built in the late 1800's when the cattle walking across 12th avenue (next to the piers) became a problem - due to conflicts with other traffic.
