velotrain: Mostly work with styrene, but anything that is good for the piece-in-mind works. The roof on the deposit is just 200gr. paper grainy, fringed on 3mm rows. ;)

 

BTW, a tip here: the mirrors on the ends of the platform are made with Hasegawa's mirror finish. Really cool stuff and not that hard to put on the piece with a very nice finish.

So does it smooth out like gold leaf?

I tried it and gave up, due to it being impossible to cut a suitable circle with the tools I have available. Also couldn't get the vaguely-circle-like shape I managed to stick to the curved surface. And those mirror heads are very easy to break off.

I took some pics on how I do it. As I'm out of mirrors, used a spare clock from a Greenmax platform, wich is kind of similar. 

 

Pic 1: Mirror Finish and the piece to work.

Pic 2: Cut a square piece of mirror finish a little bigger than the diameter of the piece to work with.

Pic 3: Peel the Mirror finish from the support and Place with some prcision plies.

Pic 4: Take a toothpick and smooth one end. Start pushing the mirror finish into the piece with circular movements from the center out. If you accidentaly damage it, just peel it out and put a new piece.

Pic 5: The mirror finish applied.

Pic 6: With a hobby knife with a really (really) sharp point, start cutting the mirror finish excess using the outer rim of the mirror as  help.

Pic 7: Take out the excess.

Hello guys! Little update on the layout. Finished the shops on the street using the front of two Greenmax stores and scratching the back and a half- front scratch built:

 

 

Here's a little green on the station:

 

 

And here you can see the row of shops (details to be added on the front, like plants, street signs, etc.) and the back of the three tomytec buildings crossing the street. Recently finished the garden on the center one and have to do the backyards of the other two. There's a close-up of the garden becouse the three buildings will have a fence and won't be able to take a pic from that angle again.

great work as always! love the tiny garden! did you make the little stone temple from modeling clay? are the shrubs all hand done? look like they have great leaf detail, is that ground foam or flake bits?

Great idea to use aluminium foil on that mirror on the platform! We can see the reflection of the line on the mirror! Very realistic and great modelling idea!

Jeff, all in the garden is fine turf from Woodland or Scenic. The shrubs, first I thought on taking some underbrush and given it a round form, but it looked like I'll had poor chances to that. So came up with the idea of making some dots of silicone glue and then put some tacky glue on them and dip it on fine turf. And those are the shrubs.

For the little stone temple used some cilinder of plastic for the center, discs of plastic to the base and top and for the "legs" a piece of plastic like a donut and cutted it in 4 pieces. Give the texture with the base paint itself and the some washes with black and green and final drybrush with a very light gray.  :)

Hi guys! Long time no see!

I've been slowly working and making some improvements. Firstly, finished the fences on the back of the houses:

  

Then started to work on the water tower and the shed beside it.

  

Then added flock to the area, removed the gantry as it was too much with the water tank there, and some paint with the airbrush:

And that's how it is right now. I have to start to add bushes and trees and little details everywhere. I have a package from hlj in customs, wich has some Kato telephone poles and street lights, and Tomytec catenary poles, so I have work ahead  :)

Edit: On last pic, you can see one end of the station. Misteriously the mirror on it disappeared  :cussing: don't know when or how, but I'll have to scratch a new one.

Excellent work as always from you! Tiny bits of vegetation around structures make a huge differ nce. Love the little Garden!

 

What materials did you use to scratch build the shed? Is the roof just cut cardstock?

Thank you Jeff! The shed is made as a real one: internal structure on plastic beams 1.5x1.5mm and outside are individual beams of 0.4mm plastic. The roof, as with the engine shed, is aluminum foil (the thicker one) and made the corrugate over an IDE cable.

Utrainia: These are individual strips, I cut the the needed lenght and the "broken ones" cut them with a very fine scissor (in fact I use one I found on a fishing store, that is used for fly making for flycast) You cut various boards and use them on different places as you build up the walls.

Hi guys! Little update here. I've been slowly and constantly working on the central part of the layout (the yard) and have it almost finished. Sorry for the pics quality, they'r from my phone. I hope you like it!

 

 

Here added a scratch built mechanic semaphore and switch levers:

 

And here's the motor grader finally added to the landscape:

 

Finally, I would like to ask for help on any of you to help me on what tipe of signaling should I place on the rails/yard.

About signalling, this can be as complex or as simple as you want (or your layout requires).

The mechanical signal and levers look already great.

 

If I would have to make an update, I would move the semaphore some centimeters away from the toes of the points/switch. So the semaphore could cover both siddings.

About that, as this belong to the yard area, it's suposed to be abandoned also. I didn't move it pass the point becouse I was afraid it would be confused also with the main line. Maybe move it as you suggest it but on the other side of the track would be OK? And about signs, I've seen lots of pictures on the sides of the rail in station areas but don't know the meaning (like numbers, or rhomboid shapes)
