Nikkyosha at all? Near the river tramlines bridge?

Of course. They're a Kumamoto small business that I'm pleased to support.

I stopped at Nikkyosha again and gave into temptation - I'm now the proud owner of the beautiful and classy EF55. I love the headmarks included with it. I'm glad that no extra piping or details need to be self-applied, nor the numberplate! I saw the EF55 1 myself at the museum in Saitama in 2016. That's probably one reason I couldn't resist this. I like the new logo color for the KATO case emblem as well.
I'm definitely a big fan of the Kokutetsu EL now, and if I wasn't, the EF55 1 did it for me. But nothing can supplant my love for steam.
Who else here wants the EF50 or an EF11?

Very nice, but sadly it is almost certain that the manufacturer applied lining on the EF50 was lost quite quickly.

You don't say. It is almost certain that all the lining applied to steam locomotives upon delivery didn't last the first repaint, either, but I prefer nearly all locos in their original as-built appearances, "Lyn" being just one example versus its rebuilt look.

Yesterday I received my second electric locomotive a Kato EF64 my first was a EF200 from Kato. Isn't she pretty, I may put it into MOW service.

Been a while since I've posted here, basically because life gets in the way and all of my recent arrivals have been European H0 stock. Ah well, time for a belated update.

I last alluded to some trams turning up, and sure enough, the two Tosaden 200-series cars arrived with four TM-TR01 power units the day after I posted. While I'd already fitted a powered chassis to a Hiroden 1900, it's taken a while to use up the other four - one went under Tosaden 210 within a few days of arrival, and just tonight the second and third were fitted to Yokohama 1151 and Nagoya 1421 to bring my Tomytec tram fleet up to ten operating examples.

IMG_8564.thumb.JPG.413d4f013e64573a5ed8741bb32d84f6.JPG

I have to admit that I prefer the newer livery on 210 at this scale, as it's more vibrant than the older cream livery with red and green striping modelled by 209 and younger IRL-sister 802. My first thought on the new livery was 'rock melon' but if it is a rock melon, that's a pretty thick rind on it... or maybe that's the kid brain talking. 😁

IMG_8565.thumb.JPG.98672f43937a945ead60bf60b3e508d6.JPG

The problem I now have is that I'm still nowhere near halfway through my tram fleet - excluding Nagoya 1421 and Yokohama 1151 which I motorized tonight after giving a 'Japan holiday' talk to my local railway society, there's twenty more trams waiting to be done! And that's before I bring in yet another Nagoya tram from Zenmarket (can't remember which one, all I know is it's one I didn't have before) and the two Kobe trams. This is probably a sign I need serious help.

And speaking of Zenmarket, other than that Nagoya tram I'm also bringing in two Kato D51 headlights for a repair project - one of the headlight prisms on my MicroAce KiHa 42600 trailer car was missing at the time I brought it. A modified D51 prism should do the trick, which is good because MicroAce won't provide replacements, their spare parts service is for things like motors, drive trains, bogies etc.

Still need to post my thoughts on the Tadami Line KiHa 40/47 set which I'll do tomorrow.

Alright, may as well skip the thoughts on the Tadami Line KiHa's as I've had them a while now, but tonight I got the email from Hobbysearch that the latest round of preorders has just arrived:

Item name : Nagoya Rinkai Railway Diesel Locomotive Type ND552 (ND552-15) (Model Train)
Item price :6,840 yen  x  Q.T.Y :1 = 6,840 yen

Item name : ED75-1000 Early Type (Model Train)
Item price :7,380 yen  x  Q.T.Y :1 = 7,380 yen

Item name : Railway Post Office/Baggage Car `Tohoku` (6-Car Set) (Model Train)
Item price :13,860 yen  x  Q.T.Y :1 = 13,860 yen

Item name : SUNI41 2000 (Model Train)
Item price :1,980 yen  x  Q.T.Y :1 = 1,980 yen

Item name : MANI36 (Remodeling from SURONE30) (Model Train)
Item price :1,980 yen  x  Q.T.Y :1 = 1,980 yen

All up that's ¥32,040 worth of rolling stock or $356.61NZD which makes this probably the biggest single shipment I've had from HS.

Not sure how much more I'll keep buying from them though, as I've just created a Rail Gallery Rokko account and it looks like RG-R is going to be cheaper for several items I'm eyeing up including the new Kato 10-1810 TaKi 1000 tank wagons. Which as I've now discovered will likely be a must-have as one of the TaKi's in the set, TaKi 1000-833, happened to show up at Negishi on 6 June 2023 as I headed to the Yokohama Tram Museum:

Shouldn't look too bad behind my ND55 even if Nagoya Rinkai doesn't handle fuel trains.

The Kato Taki 1000s are nice models. I have 2 sets of the older 8 cars with Eneos branding attached. (10-825, 10-1167) The earlier version had all green ladders like the Kato HO offering, so needed some painting plus I added the short couplers to all but the loco ends of a 16 tanker train. The big thing that puts me off getting any more is the huge price hike.

10-1167 - Taki 1000 8 car set Eneos mark ¥11,440 (Last Released in 2018)

10-1810 - Taki 1000 8 car set Eneos mark ¥19,800 (Due November 2023)

What has been updated, improved to warrant the 73% price increase? I can appreciate the increased cost in raw material and the weak Yen when buying it in, but seems more like greed to me, especially when the 10 car set 10-1750 has the same price point.

Greed is not something I would associate with Kato, nor blame them to be. Kato is not Hornby. At least maybe people might start to complain less about MA pricing now that Kato had to dramatically increase their prices as well in just a few years. But if you can't swallow the new prices, you won't be buying many new trains/sets. These prices are going to be the new normal.

From what I can see between 10-1167 and 10-1750, the body is made completely differently. The new production doesn't have a visible seam and there is a new detail on the cistern, the ladder is made differently and the gap between the cistern and the platforms seems smaller, but beside that, the details are not better and I'm not sure the changes made were enough to warrant a new production process. They are too marginal to be noticed at this size.

At this point, I think Japanese manufacturers should start looking into upping their details to be more on par with what Chinese manufacturers and Piko are offering.

I agree, I can’t see prices coming down, but as your comments said, I think they’ll have to pick up their game in terms of detail to warrant the new price points. Kato used to be the good quality, reasonably-priced entry point and you could forgive some omissions on details and having to add many user fitted parts as the price was attractive.

Thankfully I have a wealth of trains collected over the years so any new acquisitions are far more considered than when I was starting out when I just wanted everything. Shame for those that are just starting out and need to invest way more cash than they would have 5 years ago.

Anyway, I will leave it there as this isn’t the “What were you going to order until you saw the price hike!” thread.

You're correct .The box labels "HN-504" but , It's actually the HN-506 and turn out to be a Bachmann product , not from Tomix.
Googled it and found more interesting discovery that Tomix and Bachman have the same product but sold separately with their own product code.

NDD552-15 was predominantly used as a yard shunter at Minamiarako which is about halfway along the Aonami Line that runs down to the SC Maglev Park and Legoland Nagoya, the Nagoya Rinkai does shift a decent amount of fuel though, but more over towards Yokkaichi as there are a couple of refineries in the area.

My latest parcel arrived one day early on Tuesday, no complaints there but I've only just had a chance to do all the detail-y bits on the locomotives due to the need to get other stuff done, i.e. domestic stuff before the family returned from Florida today and finishing the Christchurch Märklin MRC newsletter.

IMG_8580.thumb.JPG.11576743897d7883c92e6e862723f059.JPG

So, the latest delivery from Hobbysearch included the following:

- Kato 3075-4 JNR ED75-1000

- Kato 5139 SuNi 41 2000

- Kato 5229 MaNi 36 (SuRoNe 30 remodelled car)

- Tomix 8613 Nagoya Rinkai Railway ND55 2

- Kato 10-898 'Tohoku' Post/Luggage train (not including 3075-1 ED75-1000 which was relocated into this case)

With the arrival of the ED75, my total for that class of locomotive has now risen to six. I still have a further two number options for this type, the reason being that the 3075-4 is really just a rerun of the 3075-1 with the new slotless motor and therefore I can use my 'spare' ED75-1000 numbers from when I built my 3075-1. Last time around I broke with tradition and instead of making my locomotive ED75 1004 as per the catalog image, I used the plates for ED75 1011 as I had photos of that in my Tohoku electric photo reference book. This time though, the new arrival has taken number 1004 and tradition is (somewhat) restored.

IMG_2257.thumb.JPG.523dfe6b69816e88f8fe4e9976811157.JPG

While the Nagoya Rinkai has now taken its ND55s out of service now, I was lucky enough to see two static in the Arako Station freight sidings in May 2019, ND55 215 and ND55 213. As my photo of 213 indicated it had wasp striped headstocks at least during its last years of service, I settled for ND 55 215 which my not-entirely-clear iPod photos showed vaguely as having grey headstocks as per the model when I zoomed in. And in my tradition of Fiddly Little Bits that go 'Whee!' (And Inevitably Get Lost Forever), I had to lose the first whistle for this loco during installation. Whistle #2 eventually went in, and I didn't need to glue it or get silly stressed doing it either so, bonus I guess?

Right now I have no appropriate wagons to run with it, but in time some will come my way, probably from Rail Gallery Rokko to make it feel a little less lonely. And maybe a EF65-2000, for as I found out today after rustling through the Kato catalog and my photos, I bagged EF65 2067 blasting through Otsu 27 June 2023... and that happens to be a number option for the Kato 3061-5 model. Apologies for the lousy grab shot, it was the best I could do at the time.

Thanks, @Das Steinkopf! Good to know the TaKi's won't look out of place behind a ND55. I'm sure I'll be able to come up with a plausible excuse for ND55-215 coming out of the yard, maybe breakdown cover or unplanned extra tonnage?

Well it does give you a good excuse to get the other model ND552-3 as it was used for hauling a wide variety of freight trains around the area, I have both models on order and I will be using ND552-3 to move TaKi's as well as my Toyota Longpass train as well as normal container trains.

Oh, that's available again? I must obtain one, the straight parts are very useful for making level crossings, "hard standing" etc. too.
