Tecchan
This is the timeline for my current order from HS (some Tomix train cases). Times are Australian local time, 1hr ahead of Japan. 11/05 2347 :Order placed 12/05 1744 :Payment request received 13/05 2335 :Advice of shipment received 15/05 1432 :Departed Sydney (according to Japan Post, so may be at my local post office as I type this) There is a box I usually tick at the check out to instruct them to only ship items in stock and cancel the rest of the order, if you left it unchecked you may find they have been searching their suppliers and Tomix for the tram track and you will eventually get a very apologetic email from them about the delay. Thanks a lot for the timeline. I finally had the payment request this morning. Good news: the unavailable items are in my order. The must use a real-time shopping cart system that rely on the orders placed and not the orders shipped. It seems logical but not every shop uses this system which requires a really good inventory system. Anyway, my order is payed and I can't wait to start on my layout! I just hope SAL will be fast, I'm really waiting for this parcel! (better I had for SAL was 7 days, worst: more that three weeks) Link to comment
Martijn Meerts
Received my tuscan red GG1 last friday, looks almost as impressive as the real one. I still can't see it's a beautiful train though, but impressive nonetheless :) Link to comment
KenS
Hobby Search has been slow getting the payment requests out lately, even after sending an email confirming a pre-order is in-stock. If you click on their User Menu link in the top right and log in, you can check your order status, and if it's ready for payment there's a Paypal link there, so you don't have to wait for the email. In several cases I've waited two days without an email, then checked and paid via the link. I suspect it's some kind of staffing issue, but as far as I can tell the payment link isn't there until they've confirmed the stock is available. They're just slow on some orders. Usually my pre-orders, which are probably things the have to process a lot of. They do use a real-time inventory system for normal orders (non-preorders), and I've only seen it be wrong about an item twice in two years of fairly frequent orders. I've seen the available quantity go to zero the moment I made an order, but still received the item. I've never had them ask for payment before they discovered what was absent and corrected the total. Link to comment

They are not consistently slow, I got the payment request the next day (and I placed the order at 10:47pm Japanese time). Australia Post's website says it was ready for me to pick up at my local post office at 6:53 this morning so that's 6 days 7 hrs from placing the order, not too bad at all. Link to comment
KenS
I didn't mean to imply they were always slow. Mostly I get the payment request the day after the "in stock" email for preorders or a couple of days after placing an order, but in the last six months they've had a few where I had to go find the payment link, and that had never happened to me before. And shipping remains very, very fast. Typically about five days from payment to box in hand (EMS). Link to comment
Tecchan
I received the payment confirmation. Waiting for the shipping notice (if they do send one) and expecting around 15 days for my parcel in SAL. Link to comment
harukablue
Hi, my last purchase was N gauge TOMIX 92358 3 car JR West 321 EMU set,,,i havent purchased any N scale for a while as I was concentrating on my 1/80 HO models, I must say on taking the model out of the box that the model is a little dissapointing and very basic, its not a patch on some of my KATO models like the 313 or 223, is the KATO 321 a better detailed model? Lew Link to comment
David
I'm not sure about the difference in detail, though the Kato model of the JR West 321 (which is sold as one 7-car set) is one of their newer toolings: drop in DCC, body mounted close couplers, etc. Link to comment
harukablue
My Tomix comes with rapido couplers however the TN coupler can be added, im going to google and see if any Japanese model railers have done a comparison, Link to comment
scott
My Kato Nagano-livery 115 just came in--it's another fairly basic set, but it looks good and should fit in well with our other trains. Of course, this means that we now have *five* 115 sets (3 Niigata, 1 Nagano, and the misfit Minobu-line Tomix), so it might be time to stop collecting them. I'm thinking about repainting the Minobu-line set after I get the airbrushes figured out. Link to comment
