Toni, you probably mean HW :)

HS actually marks my stuff as "gift" as well, but seems the Dutch customs don't care, as I still have to pay VAT ...

I was actually reading up on the whole customs and VAT etc.. In the Netherlands, anything above 22 euro value requires you to pay VAT, but no import taxes. Anything above 150 euro requires you to pay VAT plus import tax. On top of that, you always have to pay the customs handling fee.. In short, if you order something worth 30 euro, you pay more on handling and VAT than the value of the package item ....

Wow, they really stick it to you guys. In Australia the threshold is $1000 for paying GST, I recently got a large order from MB Klein in the US that was held by customs. I emailed them the invoice and the conversion rate for the day the order was shipped that gave the cost as AU$994 and I had the package two days later with nothing to pay. From what I can gather from the documentation sent to me by customs model railway equipment doesn't attract import tax here, though as with most such documents it wasn't exactly in plain English.

Martijn,

that´s interesting! One should think, that these things are handled all the same within the EU countries. HS does not mark my shipments as "gift", and I have to pay 19 % VAT on the value of the merchandise, not on shipping. No customs duty, though, and no handling fee.

Right now I have a Kato Eizan Electric Railway Series 900 (Type Deo900) `Kirara` on order, shipment has arrived in Germany and I expect delivery within the next days.

The Netherlands seems a bit behind on the whole importing stuff thing :) Strange considering the Dutch were so early with trading with various countries etc.

You will like your Series 900, I picked up that one and the Orange one.  Very nice pair, they run smoothly.

Got my replacement Tomytec Niigata Kotsu railcar today from Hong Kong, thanks to Bill, who spotted that there was one more on eBay.

I might just leave the cheeseball original pantograph on this one, since the more accurate version kept falling apart.

I got a question:

Usually, how much time does HobbySearch need to process an order?

I placed an order on sunday afternoon, received the order confirmation right after but I still haven't received the PayPal payment request.

Is it normal?

Thanks! :-)

they are usually w/in 48 hrs for the payment from the order, but i think they dont send the payment until they have it ready to go so perhaps they are a bit behind in their stockroom or paperwork... HS does not seem a zippy as it once was. maybe thats because it now use the paypal checkout instead of putting in the cc for payment authorization when you do the order.

I've had delays of up to a week after Golden Week in previous years.

I'd been thinking about some sort of small tram and/or interurban layout. But I didn't want the pressure (!) of modelling any particular place, so I broke down and ordered a couple of the Pocket Line trams. They may not be all that realistic, but they should be fun.

Scott, they run well and were an easy conversion to DCC with a Digitrax decoder.

I now have 3 and they will be the motive power on my new layout - perfect for a fictitous place.

Enjoy

Received some buildings from Rainbowten for a bit of kitbashing..... and found some wonderful origami thrown in with the packing material

I just got in two of the Green Max 46-4 town building sets -- four buildings each. That should go a long way toward building the town at our main station.

Big news today! (for me, of course  :grin )

I the meantime that I wait the monthly box from Rainbowten (this time all the Tomix N700-7000 and 8000 released), I won on Yahoo one of the last 2 sets that I need to complete the Shinkansen history: one Endo 9004 200 fake set (Zero series green/cream painted).

If someone can help me, now I need only one Endo 9006 200 car set and some single 200 cars (art.3031>3037)

I can exchange it with new Kato or Tomix Shinkansen (ask me for list)

ciao

Massimo

Bigger problem: some of the items I ordered are out of stock now (Tomix tram tracks).

I'm thinking about canceling my order and placing the exact same one on Rainbowten...

This is the timeline for my current order from HS (some Tomix train cases). Times are Australian local time, 1hr ahead of Japan.

11/05 2347 :Order placed

12/05 1744 :Payment request received

13/05 2335 :Advice of shipment received

15/05 1432 :Departed Sydney (according to Japan Post, so may be at my local post office as I type this)

There is a box I usually tick at the check out to instruct them to only ship items in stock and cancel the rest of the order, if you left it unchecked you may find they have been searching their suppliers and Tomix for the tram track and you will eventually get a very apologetic email from them about the delay.
