“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” Just ordered a couple of trains - TOMIX 97934 Tobu 500 Series (Revaty Kegon/Revaty Aizu) and TOMIX 98458 JR HC85 series hybrid. Got a little catching up to do, uh oh. 😁

Shipping and taxes was 60% of total cost. Yay.

That's why we never just order a single item, and why I avoid HS. Their large stock is not worth their rigidity nor their higher price.

Wasn't originally a single item order. Was separated from another order.

I did try to get it combine with more items I would buy. But they wanted 10% restocking fee, just for me to reorder the same item and more.

I should have just cancelled and lost the 10%. And purchased elsewhere.

This is/was my final order with them. AmiAmi and PlazaJapan have my future business. AmiAmi shipping rates are better, PlazaJapan has best on shelf stock.

I know, that part was more of a general statement.

I can't believe they wanted a restocking fee. That's so ridiculous. That's probably the only thing they could find to try and force people to keep their orders because their shipping system is too rigid.

That's annoying. Hopefully they won't pull the same trick with me, I have a book waiting to be restocked from them!

After a while of *not* buying any more N-scale trains, my latest Hobbysearch purchase landed at the ED Depot today: the Kato 10-1267 E233-3000 Tokaido-Ueno Line basic set. As I've mentioned previously, I've ridden on the prototype of this set back in May 2019 which makes it one of only a few trains in my fleet that I've personally seen or ridden on.

IMG_6622.thumb.JPG.03b63a1299d7871a4b7bc9e6bae04558.JPG

Almost lost the flare tube from the top of one cab car because it tried to goo 'Whee!' in that time-honoured tradition but ended up safely on the kitchen bench thanks to my sister's television of all things! See, siblings can be useful after all.

And of course, that flare tube is now fixed in place. I was suggested to add a blob of Blu-Tack on to it so it could be found more easily. I can confirm for making fiddly little bits super visible, it's super effective!

Meanwhile in Osaka another Zenmarket package is brewing up containing two some useful N-gauge goodies:

- One each OHa and OHaFu 50 series coach (Kato)

- A OHaNi 61 series coach

- A MaNi 44 bogie van (Kato)

- A SaHa 103 intermediate coach (Tomix)

I had tried to bag an intermediate coach set for the Tomix 215 series which happened to be sitting at $60.00 NZD on Yahoo! Auctions with no bids... unfortunately while I was at work on the final day of the auction, two other bidders swooped, and the set finally went for $92.00 NZD. Hard luck! I'll now have to look elsewhere to complete this train. In the meanwhile, it looks like the add-on sets for the E233 aren't too badly priced so I might look at getting those over the next while instead.

Apart from the SL Hitoyoshi on order from PlazaJapan, the only other goodies I've got on order came from an impulse HS order:

- Modelling Reference Library 'Usui Pass EF63' (back-order)

- RM Re-Library 7 'Century of Usui Pass' (late November)

- Kato 10-034 Passenger Car Set (Brown, 4 Cars; late November)

I'm not planning to go down the Usui Pass route, not an awful lot of variety there if I'm honest unless I model Yokokawa or Karuizawa but I've seen it featured in both Rail Wars! and Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z and that's kind of piqued my interest in this route. In fact, one of the protagonists in Shinkalion Z likes to hang out around the old Maruyama Substation which kind of set the early story into motion...

Recently it was my birthday, and I got gifted a couple of things and also picked up some things for myself to celebrate. I also realised everyone here was right, and Yahoo Japan Auction is very very dangerous...

What a beautiful front end design with a subtle paint scheme makes for an awesome looking train. Just added to my to ride train list. Some buy trains they’ve ridden, I buy trains I want to ride. 😁

I have a thing for JR Central and this HC85 is a great addition to my 313’s, 373’s, 383’s and Kiha 85’s - I like anything with orange and black.

As so often, not exactly new, but emerging from the Pile this rake of Kato SuRo81 "Ozashiki" excursion coaches, the predecessor of the later "Joyful Trains", made out of surplus OHa 61s etc., themselves reconstructed from earlier wooden-bodied coaches:

It's a good example of "fixed expenses" vs "variable expenses".

I'm still stuck with small packets though. Can't do much when the income is sub-1.000€/month and the only other alternatives are DHL, FedEx or UPS.

Is there anyone here on the forum who hasn't done that?🤣

Latest Zenhaul landed today, supposedly it was going to arrive sometime between 3:15 and 5:15 but it showed up at 2:42! Well, I can't complain about that as it meant I could open it before finishing lunch and (shortly) heading off to work.

IMG_6657.thumb.JPG.af951a4a4a444076f435cc473b1d567b.JPG

Ooooh, who doesn't love a good parcel? Everything wrapped up nicely and then bubble wrapped again for extra protection...

IMG_6658.thumb.JPG.62fa8bcc72e651935afe10a2b52463b0.JPG

This was just the N-gauge portion of the haul (there were three H0 wagons in there which will go on the 'Other Scales' thread). One OHaNi 61 coach to complete the Kato 61-series, a MaNi 44 luggage wagon, two 50-series coaches and a Tomix Chuo... oops, too far north, I mean Osaka Loop Line SaHa 103 intermediate coach for my Osaka 103 series.

I thought this was going to be my *last* Zenmarket package for the year but of course I couldn't resist buying more stuff, namely the remaining cars for the Osaka 103 and three more HoKi 800 wagons from the 97949 set because I had three spare numbers and I actually like those little wagons. Oh, and I've also got mum's Christmas present in that little lot too so that will keep me in the good books for a little bit too.

And while we're on the subject of new arrivals, this also turned up earlier this week:

IMG_6630.thumb.JPG.ba0ca183bb7f51c545673dacd526da46.JPG

These reference guides are pretty neat little things. Although it's ostensibly about the EF63's, there's a short section for the predecessor ED42's and a few photos of the Karuizawa Station at the northern end of the Usui Pass, and the current state of all the preserved EF63's too. The photographers obviously spent a lot of time around Yokokawa Depot, but there's some photos from up the line and a good one of a C12 tank locomotive trying (and failing) to hide an ED42 in its steam haze at Yokokawa.

And another Buyee package landet today. A rather large one, and even as I for the first time asked actively to shrink the package down.

PXL_20221121_121724113_MP.thumb.jpg.d758aea10cd011655d951c68d49bc4a9.jpg

I was also kind of puzzled once I opened the package, that it seems that only half the stuff got repacked, and a few regular boxes still remained.

PXL_20221121_122213967_MP.thumb.jpg.f6701075e397dbf77a9842d97425acbf.jpg

I quickly learned tho that aparently a few boxes where so tightly packed, that they probably just didnt bother to try to pack it more "saving". XD

PXL_20221121_124628019_MP.thumb.jpg.7ab8eb3e99a63f476c727965dde98413.jpg

Anyway, I got a few more buildings now, most pre-owned, some even painted and ripped of layouts (due to glue marks), but I figured for cheap they make a great background scenic one day (if I ever do a layout lol). Also, I got some Kits from Amazon.co.jp for buildings via Buyee as well, so curious how good these are.
