railsquid
Meanwhile it's Friday night in Japan, the Kato HQ team are down at their local izakaya scrolling through the interwebs and are all like "hold my beer". More likely though, imagine it's 2042 and the hopelessly anachronistic 2020s Tomix and Poppendetta tooling is still fetching astronomical prices on the second hand market, and the third generation Mr. Kato is like "oooh Revaty last run fast approaching, fire up the CAD!". 1 4 Link to comment
railsquid
A random assortment mainly of detailing bits, a couple of which I've been after for a long while and finally found; the others fell into the basket while in the store. Also some tools, including a copper tube cutter and a second and third pin vise, as I find I often need to use different bit sizes in close succession and it's annoying to keep swapping them around (especially if they need different "holders") so hit on the revolutionary idea of acquiring a couple more (only took me about 5 years to come up with that). And a bus stop, which will be exported to Germany as a tram stop. Edited October 15, 2022 by railsquid 6 2 Link to comment
Kamome
I’m jealous of those living in Tokyo with a good choice of options to be able to find these kinds of detail parts on excursions. In Fukuoka, my travels are usually pretty fruitless apart from the usual type parts you can find everywhere. Other than ordering from the likes of Imon, who like many other model shops have a premium postage charge for Kyushu, it seems difficult to get most things down this way. Link to comment
disturbman
Imagine how we feel, not being able to go to a hobby shop that store any Japanese models at a normal price. We have to import everything 😉 6 Link to comment

Totally plausible until you mentioned Kato doing a last run set. 🤣 1 Link to comment
Rod.H
I just received 2 lots of GuP 20ft containers and Kato's new Local Line Station and one sided platform, which is going to replace the Station on my foamboard oval. 2 Link to comment

The annoying aspect is that some pin vises don't hold my micro drill bits very well. the chuck does not go small enough when tightened. Link to comment
cteno4
Try these, they work great on small bits and have a chuck even clamping jaws. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832437650476.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.735b3a08CwAjHF&algo_pvid=9f596128-b337-4a9c-946f-3f216203bf87&algo_exp_id=9f596128-b337-4a9c-946f-3f216203bf87-41&pdp_ext_f={"sku_id"%3A"10000000959122057"}&pdp_npi=2%40dis!USD!2.81!2.39!!!!!%40210318cb16660632793943453e829d!10000000959122057!sea&curPageLogUid=NpXbwICYIagq they also work well with bits with 1/8” shank, like pcb bits. The also have a nice heft to them and a tad larger diameter handle for my big fingers. Also nice big rotating pad on the back. like squid discovered I have a number of these to have the usual bit sizes ready to go. cheers jeff 2 Link to comment

The Tamiya ones are designed for bits from 0.1mm, though the smallest I currently have (or had until I broke it the other day) is 0.3mm. 1 Link to comment

The nice thing about the parallel chuck on the one I linked above is all the jaws move in in parallel so a bit is held all along it’s shank. Most pin vises use pinch chucks which just pinch in the end of the Jaws so the shank is just held at the very tip of the jaws. This can make the bit be a bit off center or sometimes not grab well and it has its limits in jaw travel. Always best to use the pinch chuck closest in ID to your shank size for best grip. This gets harder with the tiny bits. jeff 2 Link to comment

I even went on a little trip from Tokyo to Sendai just to ride them both. No disappointment. Edited October 21, 2022 by gavino200 1 Link to comment

It is an ad I found on the web, which I saved as a TIFF, inserted into Microsoft Word and resized to 3.5 inches by 5 inches. I then printed it on Canon glossy photo paper and glued it to 80 lb card stock. Here is the TIFF file in Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/85mjgeswrb58z6y/JR East 2.tif?dl=0 Let me know if you can access it. Or I can email the Word document to you. I've wanted one for years This JR East poster and others like it appeared around late 2010 to early 2011 for the E5 debut. The tag line was “Made in Dream” which might be slightly grammatically wrong, but English is often used as it looks cooler. I really liked this campaign. Definitely generated a lot of excitement and I don’t recall any other shinkansen introductions since that had quite the same impact. Here is the N700S Kamome launch poster. Some others say “Come On Kamome” https://www.sogohodo.co.jp/ooh/14518/ I always wonder why large Japanese corporations rarely get their English checked. Thankfully this has created a sub-culture of “Engrish” spotting. Edited October 22, 2022 by Kamome 2 Link to comment
