You know your mailman's name? That's great, you'll never miss a delivery. Actually my mailman & UPS guy are equally as nice. This past Xmas, I had to sign for a package and I missed him because of work...he came back at the end of his shift to see if I would be home, which I was...great guy!

My Mailman Sam woke me up again today at 11:00 am. ( I work nights  :grin )  Aside from enjoying my coffee, he gets really excited to see what was delivered from Japan.  Great guy!  Still can't convince him to join the hobby, but he does enjoy seeing whats inside the packages he delivers.  Living in a very, very, small town certainly has it's advantages when dealing with the PO and everyone knows you.  Very gratifying how they all want to see what I order.  Lot's of ooooohs and aaaaahs!

Anyway today I received:

3 packs #23-059 Kato single track catenary poles

5 packs #23-060 Kato double track catenary poles

10 packs #23-056 Kato catenary pole base sets

1 #2712 Tomix JNR REMU5000

1 #2714 Tomix JNR WAMU80000

1 #2717 Tomix JNR WARA1

1 #2729 Tomix JNR POMU1

Tomix #2747, and #2748 TAMU's are preordered and hope to receive by end of month.

Yep - he's a great guy - even has my cell phone # - If Sam is off we have a substitue mailman so Julie at the PO will keep my package there and call me at home so I can pick it up on my way to work. ( She thinks I'm crazy for buying Japanese trains )  I tip them on Christmas and their B'Days.  That always helps, and that's the meaning of "Priority" mail  :grin  Not too fond of the new Postmaster and neither are they - She's been quite snobbish, but seems to be coming around.  BTW - Sam delivered 10 more Tomix Wamu's #2703 and #2704 with a couple different varieties I ordered from Domino - Thanks Brian!!!

Nik got some T-Guage stuff for Easter.  Sort of a little diversion from that huge n-scale stuff we normally play with.

I will have to say it's pretty amazing crazy stuff.  Borders on magic.  The buildings are pretty neat too;  They include interiors and lightpipe to illuminate it.

Lucky little bugger.   :grin

Tomytec Niigata Kotsu Ltd 11 (from Railway Collection 6) arrived from Hong Kong via eBay today

I need to get another one of those. One corner of the body on ours got cracked--I blame the cats.

I saw T-Gauge at the Calgary train show just a few weeks ago. My immediate reaction was "NEATO!" but became "MEH" once the novelty wore off (which was like 2 minutes). I think it was just too small. I think it would great to run around say, an architectural model, but as far as actually modeling it, I'd have to pass.

LOL and when the heck did people start buying presents at Easter?? Sounds to me like an excuse to buy more trains...  :cheesy (although I suppose you could easily hide T gauge stuff inside Easter eggs hahaha...

I just got the full 10 car e5系, Tomytec Portrams 2 & 3, and 2 Fukushima Kotsu 7000系.

Very happy with the E5!

I broke down and ordered Kato's Tusan red, five stripe GG1 from M.B.Kleins ... I never thought I'd buy a GG1 because I thought they were butt-ugly, but seeing one up close made me rethink. (I still don't think they're pretty locomotives, but whoever designed and painted them did know their job, and loved doing it :))

Now I just need to hide my paypal account info so I don't suddenly end up ordering the base and additional Broadway Limited set (or at least, not yet ;))

The original design was a joint effort between Westinghouse and the PRR drawing office. The cleaned-up production version and the famous paint job was the work of Raymond Loewy. I agree, they're not "pretty", but they have a brute charm about them that is unique.

Cheers,

They definitely have a certain something, but I can't really put my finger on it. Of course, pretty much all the locomotives in the Pennsylvania RR museum were impressive, it felt like they were all much bigger (taller mostly) than the Dutch loco's.

I've always liked the Tuscan red colorscheme of the GG1 though. When Marklin came out with the Tuscon red version I was tempted to get that one as well :)

Ha Martijn, glad you caught one US bug on your visit!

i too was re-impressed with Martijn with the GG1's presence. I had seen them in operation in central Pennsylvania when i was a kid, but that was at bit of a distance. even at a little distance they absolutely throbbed with power. the details i loved seeing up close was some of the pin striping, it was done with old school attention to doing the proper curves, which you rarely see anymore in design, computers and gotten folks into just tweaking a few bezier handles with no real training/eye into what makes a nice curve anymore...

Nik thought they were pretty cool when we saw them at a show and on youtube.  He's the reason we do trains (his hobby, that eventually became mine).

He's been having a blast running them, changing up the track, playing with the sensors and breaking up the 4 car sets into 2 (comes with 4 cars, 2 of which are powered).  He's been building loops and point-to-points and playing around with the turnouts, with it's quirky "automation" you get from the sensors.  Trains are the kid's passion and we enjoyed watching him play.

Don't know if we'll actually model T-guage (especially with the garage filled with the uncompleted n-scale layout)... although it may be fun to build a layout in a briefcase.

As for Easter gifts, yep agree.  The wife's family always did Easter baskets with little gifts, so we keep the tradition.... and you are correct, it's now an excuse method to get more trains   :grin

ive been really surprised how well tgauge holds up with kids, ive had friends kids like 8 years old play with mine with no problems at all. one friend's 8 year old daughter spent like 2 hours one night setting up various layouts (i have a pile of track to play with) and little towns and was running trains between them and had a ball. really surprised her mother! i spent maybe 10 minutes with her showing her how to hooks stuff up and work the sensors if she wanted an she just took off by her self with them and had a ball. nothing got broken and she even straightened the couplers out a couple of times when they got a bit twisted!

tgauge is great for easter as you could put most all of the components into plastic easter eggs!

I broke down and ordered the Kato Nagano-livery 115-1000.

I'm experiencing interest creep again, especially after realizing that the Shinetsu line (which we have trains for) connects to the Shinonoi, which (sort of) connects to the JR Central Iida line, which is really interesting.

Had to pre-order the Tomix "Dr Yellow" 923 set plus 4 car 923 add on - Is anyone out there able to contribute to "Poor Richard's" addictive N scale Train Fund?  I think it's tax deductable - LOl -

Received the "Kiki's delivery service" house yesterday, came packaged in a nice, elegant, brown outer box instead if just the sheets in a plastic wrapper. Of course, the box is just cardboard as well, but still, seems like they put some thought into it. (As often is the case with Japanese packaging)

Also received a bunch of other stuff, an Oro 30 with blue stripe to go with my C11 (I already had the 2 with the red stripe), 2 of those wheel polish things, the World Kougei Ki100 Russel car snow plow kit, and 4 packs of Tomix couplers to replace the Rapido's which I still have on most models :)

My GG1 coming from M.B. Klein is on it's way to the Netherlands now as well, will probably be another 3 weeks or so before I get that though.... (I really should've just gone there and bought it while I was in the area, but I'm sure I would've ended up with more trains than I could fit in my bag =))

I'm actually almost through all my pre-orders now. Still have a Rhein Ruhr Express on pre-order at Japan Model Railways, which still doesn't have a real release date yet, just a guesstimate ..

From Hobby Search I still have the MicroAce Type 9600 #49564 Gotoji Engine Depot on pre-order, as well as the 15-car coal transporting set to go with it.

Edit: I pre-ordered the brown cleaning car / loco set and the new, limited n700-8000. Couldn't resist :)

I finally ordered the Kato Overhead Transit Station + Expansion at MB Klein. Unfortunately, the Model Railroader video series on their current project layout made me order lots of American model train stuff, too (Kato SD70MAC, track and turnouts, freight cars, structures, ballast,...).

Received the last order from HS yesterday. The box stated the contents were a 'gift', rather than commercial products, so it got through customs smoothly and without any additional VAT or other taxes. :9 Gotta love HS! Such a shame they've left the scene...

Toni, you probably mean HW :)

HS actually marks my stuff as "gift" as well, but seems the Dutch customs don't care, as I still have to pay VAT ...

I was actually reading up on the whole customs and VAT etc.. In the Netherlands, anything above 22 euro value requires you to pay VAT, but no import taxes. Anything above 150 euro requires you to pay VAT plus import tax. On top of that, you always have to pay the customs handling fee.. In short, if you order something worth 30 euro, you pay more on handling and VAT than the value of the package item ....

I finally broke down and decided to build a small tram layout to have a place to run my Tomytec bus and Modemo trams that's more visible than tucked into the background of the urban station on my current layout.  The idea is to have a simple "coffee-table" sized layout.  I really need another distraction from working on the big layout.  :grin

To that end, I just ordered a whole pile of Tomix Wide Tram Mini track, and a bit of Fine Track including switches.
