I like it too! How DCC friendly is the Kato 10-1614 E257? Does it take the EM13, FR11 and FL12?

Thanks,

Marc

Looking to my Saphir Odoriko manual, it's DCC compatible with DCC logo

Looking to the 10-613 or 10-614

  • According to Kato website DCCフレンドリー(先頭車のみ対応) -  DCC friendly (only for the first car) ... what the interest of that ?
  • And there is no logo, neither E257-2000 nor E257-2500

368541053_OdorikoE257-2000.thumb.jpg.21184ad132784711020cfb253b2d250a.jpg

1895444803_OdorikoE257-2500.thumb.jpg.e6b63172742c070f4bd1ffad41d16da0.jpg

Which is a bit surprising to me as it's a brand new product. Why, no clue.

As I don't have a DCC setup, it's not a big issue, but for the future, it doesn't make the trainset scalable to DCC friendly, meaning that, welcome to the tool shed. To me it's not a drawback as I really love the precision of details as well as the incredible paint. For you, sure, it's not the same ....

Unfortunately, nothing is explained in roman characters.

If you need it to understand how it goes in terms of labels to stick to the 5-cars set  (I hope I'm not mistaken...):

Things that have arrived, a DF200 and the missing track accessories to extract foot from mouth as seen elsewhere in forum. Now I'm waiting on some Kokis to arrive as I've more containers then I have Kokis, and I'm still in that case

Stuff for the small tram layout I'm working on arrived today. Greenmax sidewalks, a Tomix 5536 switch box and tomix gap joiners.

I'm still resisting the Kiha-261.... i just want it, but i'm SO waiting for Kato to do it, in hopes of a better looking coupler and possibel tilting mechanism... But i'm so afraid it wouldnt even happen...  😞

MicroAce ED17 (ED17-2) by Rail Squid, on Flickr

Runs very nicely after a bit of wheel cleaning.

Nice one squid! I was kinda tempted to go after one of these on Zenmarket recently but decided not to straight away. Having seen the ED17 2 at Omiya in 2019, I thought it resembled the old New Zealand Railways Eo-class locomotives, one of which lives close to me and which I have actually driven earlier this year - which was possible because the loco driver is also a member of the tramway society I'm part of. The controls are basically just tram controls anyway, and thanks to a handy isolating valve the driver can choose to have either a functional train brake or a straight air brake which as a tram driver I am more familiar with.

Back in model train land again, the latest arrival today was a Tomix 98455 Osaka Loop Line 103 series. I haven't had it running yet, but I already love it. That was before I sallied forth with tools and transfers...

Since I had a new Vallejo pin vice and 0.5mm drill bit, the radio balises were less daunting than on my Nara Line 103 and didn't need any glue whatsoever. I still lost one of the M.U. cables during installation, which seems to be obligatory whenever I try to fit one, and then the real horror story - old numb nuts here left the transfer sheet facing down onto the kitchen bench while he sorted something else out and thus screwed up some of the numbers he needed. A quick rummage in Mum's crafting supplies for sharp scissors, sticky tape and a quick run to a nearby magnifying lamp, and I was able to salvage the remaining number I needed for the MoHa 102. The other cars weren't affected thankfully.

So, quick lesson for tonight: do not leave transfer sheets facing directly down onto any sort of surface they might stick to. Unless it's the supplied paper backing of course. So I've now had to buy another set through Zenmarket (phew!) so I can go for the full eight-car set at some future time, and I am now questioning whether to go for the additional 98456 and 9014 cars straight away or whether to hold fire for a bit. Horror stories and personal stupidity aside, I'm happy with what I got. I might run it next week when my next Zenmarket package arrives, it's got a 43-series coach and another MaNi 60 baggage car in it!

I'll post some pictures of the 103 tomorrow post-unboxing and pre-transfer carnage.

ED17 1 is the one in Omiya. Bagged that one from World Kogei a while back (needs some touching up):

Both those and the New Zealand Railways Eo-class locos (checks the internet) were built by English Electric at the Dick Kerr Works, Preston so the resemblance is hardly surprising.

The add-on set should come with its own transfer sheet. Iirc, they are often the same as the one given in the basic set.

Incidentally, MB Klein has some of these in stock in right now for about $20 a pop. It’s tempting, but I was shocked to see that basic shipping for me was over $12, which still makes ordering from Japan (and waiting) cheaper.

Get on their mail list. They often have a free shipping of %-off deal that might work for you.  Patience is a virtue with them -- I find I can wait until the right promotion comes along (for things that don't fly off the shelves and become unavailable)

Yeah, had the same problem! But if it happen by Kato, it took a lot of time I think... KiHa 261-1000 and -5000 don´t have a tilting mechanism 🤔 ?! I want to change the coupler in a few month, but has no priority...

My first foray into N scale! Just bought a used 281 series with interior lights and add on diaphragms as well as an 883 Sonic set!

Also preordered the Full N700S set coming in March!

Unfortunately it looks like this one’s an exception to that rule. When looking at these again on HobbySearch, it states that the 98456 and 9014 cars aren’t supplied with numbers because those come with either the 98455 or 97940 sets. So, if I want the eight car set I’ll need those new transfers. Thanks also to @Yavianicefor his suggestion, having yet another source of numbers could be useful further down the track.

Aaaanyway, I think I promised some pictures of shiny new train:

Tomix HG box... here we go!

Four cars - yep, easier to handle on the short layouts I can currently build but now for reasons unknown I find myself keen to go big and go for the full eight.

FB60B32C-85A5-490E-8ABE-79C3DD5F409A.thumb.jpeg.24219b62ac2efb16627c1c036502e9b6.jpeg

And here we have the KuHa 103 being inspected by the Almighty Hand of God (well okay it’s actually my hand, but feel free to insert a lousy pastors' joke here...😄)

And not long before this arrived, I went and added to my HobbySearch preorders the Kato rereleases of the SuYu 44, SuNi 40 and WaKi 8000 box wagons as well as the WaSaFu 8000 box wagon with conductor's room. I already have the earlier versions of the SuYu and SuNi wagons, in fact I have two SuYu's but one is likely to be rehomed since I don't do duplicates.

Hello!

My wife bring me a wonderfull KATO Rural platform kit (23-130) + extension set (23-131) + accessory set (23-132). I'm looking forward to present the layout, but first, I need to improve skills with traxeditor.

Yesterday I started coupling pieces from the main set, but I've lots of doubts, especially in the moment to apply stickers. Works exactly like the stickers on trains? Is there a tutorial for beginners?

Link to comment

@Sr.Hornapplying stickers on buildings is easier because the stickers are bigger, and it’s easier to correct them halfway if you mess up. So no worries. I’d still recommend tweezers though.

A very sharp scalpel, a metal rule for cutting. A pair of good tweezers to apply them but also a toothpick/cocktail stick will help to nudge them straight if they sag.

More freight acquired from yahoo. The small amount of passenger equipment in the one photo was part of an auction for the contents of that box. I was primarily interested in the rotary snow plow and slightly interested in the DD13. It was a bargain.

Kato 8069-1  x 10

MicroAce DD51s x 4

MicroAce D51 x 3 + 1 MicroAce Rotary snowplow.

Tomix 2721 x 10 CHI 1 with pipe load

Kawai (or Tomix?) x 27 Takis - I haven't checked these out to know if they are made by Tomix or Kawai.

Kawai x 11 Wamus (Could also be the newer Popondetta releases. More investigation is needed)

1 unknown car. Looks like a Tomix Wafu. I will investigate later.

I forgot the EH 200 Body Shells and the Kato DD16 with snow plows....

Cheers!
