between the poor exchange rate, the increase of list price from 5760yen to 7200yen, and the reduction from three cars to two per box, these are not such a wonderful deal they use to be! still much cheaper than most alternatives that are anywhere near the quality...

I ordered my set from PlazaJapan. Considering the original Car Collection was in the mid 4000yen region and came 3 per pack, then yeah, a wee bit disappointing. But at the same time, the new models are no where near as crude as the early models and it's been a LONG TIME since the last 3 car/pack offering (only 1-3, with 4-13 being 2 per pack). I think.. The mistake they made was pricing the early models too cheaply and packing 3/pack. I personally think they realized that even if they jacked up the price, it still sells out. Tomytec is laughing all the way to the bank. If it were me, I'd also keep jacking up the price until people stopped buying them. Simple Econ 101. And you are absolutely correct. At about $3 a car, this is cheaper than anything else out there and definitely look WAY better than some of the Wiking or other offerings. But still.... $3? A matchbox car is 4x as big, uses more materials, has higher shipping costs, but costs 3x less to buy, and looks just as good. Seriously we're being gouged!!!

I have just placed an order at HS for the latest Tomytec Car Collection offering...

I missed that when it was put up for reservation the other day.  And it has a Honda Today.  But the one time I'd want a police version, then don't appear to have done one (obscure anime reference). Maybe I'll paint one.

I've now placed my own reservation, as well as one for a couple of the Bus Collection Toei Bus A set, entirely for the modern bus (I need more modern buses).

well maybe you will get lucky and one of the 4 special cars will be a police version. tomytec has been fond of police cars!

Don't I know it! Lucky I have a police station on Yamanouchi Oshika so there is somehwere to put the eight police cars I have...and there was me thinking that Japan had one of the world's lowest crime rates. Then again, with this preponderance of police cars...Yamanouchi Oshika must be the most crime-free town in Japan!  :grin

For two years I searched the world to build a fleet of 14 or 15 modern Tokyo metro buses; it looks to be getting easier now.  I wish they would issue more modern taxis in different colors.

Way cool!

I wonder if you could cannabalize a Unitram and use one of the motorized trucks from that?

Looked at using a B train power unit- tram is too narrow - interior has drivers compartment, stairs and seat top and bottom so might see if I can get apart and fit some passengers and a driver.

I got some cool stuff today from Hobby Search.  Very fast, ordered it about 8 days ago and I got it today.  Here is what I got:

[Limited Edition] Fine Track Wide Tram Track Special Set (with 2 Kinds Toyama Light Rail) (Model Train)  11-0226-1041

TM-LRT01 Power Unit For Railway Collection, For LRT (Jacobs Bogie) (Model Train) 11-0226-1041

The Bus Collection Hino Blue Ribbon HU&HT (5 Cars Set) (Model Train) 11-0226-1041

Figured this would get me into the tram world and get a smaller layout built.
