Received my Tomytec Tetsudo Collection #2. I'm only going to keep some cars (namely the freelance modernized long car, the freight cars and the Kotoden train), the others are available for sale or trade if anyone is interested. I think the Kumaden car will go to a Nissei friend of mine, his father hails from the Kumamoto area...

A picture of Tomii Dendetsu's fleet so far:

Next in shopping list:

"Mule" with train doors;

Mechanisms for the long cars (Mo 2003 and 103);

Pantographs;

MT couplers for equipment.

Also something for my Tenshodo HO loco to haul...wamuhachis for sure...

Cheers NB

Yesterday I received a HS package with my second E259 Narita Express (now I have both of Kato's versions, so I can make a 12-car train) along with more blue WAMU boxcars (Kato) and some more Tomix KOKIs and containers.

And I picked up a set of the Island Flag Stop Platform End B (23-109) square-ended new-style platforms.  After a discussion on another thread about platforms recently, I realized I didn't own a set of these, and I was going to need one to go with the V15 set I have on pre-order for the Shinkansen platform in my elevated station.

One of the interesting things about these is that unlike the usual Kato platforms, which have solid sides, this replicates a section of platform raised on posts, but open underneath.

The prototype is absolutely lovely. The model, or at least the ones I've seen running, seems to have pulling power issues. I know someone who has a 4-car version that refuses to go up anything steeper than 2%.

Koploper!

What are the chances of these still being on the rails in the Netherlands when I go there in August?

I want to take a real one home... they'd look great in Australia :)

There's quite a few of them still around. Several of them have been renewed a while ago. Unfortunately, while multiple sets can still be coupled, you won't be able to walk from 1 set to the other though the "nose" anymore. Always was a bit of a scifi feeling doing that ;)

I'm guessing you'll see them around Amsterdam and Utrecht (Utrecht being a sort of central hub for a lot of train traffic in the Netherlands.)

Ok. I've edited away most of the quotes containing Quinntopia's image. I'm not sure we need to see this image seven time in eight posts.

Finally my very first Japanese train arrived today, a Tomix (2203) DD51 #756.

On closer inspection it must be an older model, there are no operational headlights, the under body (fuel tanks) is bare metal, the pilots is open, the cab is all weight inside and the detail doesn't seem as sharp and the current ones listed on HS.  I will try and remove some of the weight from the cab, and paint the under body. Good thing I was planning on having 2 DD51s. I will have to make sure my next one is from a more current release and make sure it is my lead unit to hide to open pilots on this one. It is still a nice unit for the price I paid for it.

Koplopers are still widely in use on the mainlines from Den Haag/Rotterdam to Groningen/Leeuwarden/Enschede. The two services come together and split in Utrecht and Zwolle.

Next to the modernisation getting rid of the walk-through heads, they've renewed the motors, so it doesn't have that old and loud Talbot sound any more. Things have all gone very quiet and not really worthy for me to turn down my iPod as the train accelerates. The interior however has improved a lot!

I think you're code is wrong it's a dd54

The other dd51 (2211) is of similar age too. Most likely yours

http://aucfan.com/aucview/yahoo/r73714952/ this it?

I think that one is a very old one 2006 if i'm right.

2218 and 2216 are new I beleive

Still trying to figure out how to take this thing (old run Tomix DD51) apart but I did notice a date stamped on the bottom under the middle trucks. It is dated 2003. Does anyone know the proper procedure for dis-assembling this, I would like to take it apart to remove the weight in the cab and paint the walkway which is the colour of the molded plastic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Managed to pick up a lone Kato Taki 1000 tank at my local show, fits in perfectly with my current rake of 11. My locoal show has proved to be quite a happy hunting ground for Japanese N gauge over the years... :grin

I have a Minitrix Koploper...a lovely model, which possesses the ability to pick up power from either the track or its pantagraph! For those interested in these units...plus various other NS items, I paid a visit to Rotterdam Centraal a couple of years ago. The fruits of my visit can be seen here...http://www.jnsforum.com/index.php/topic,1945.0.html

Unfortunately, that doesn't surprise me too much given Trix's unfortunate quality control/engineering issues that seem rather prevelant in the last 5 or so years.  On some potential good news, I was able to install a decoder using the NEM 651 plug without having to solder.  I was able to program a new address on my programming track, but haven't had time to run it on the actual layout yet - I'm about 50% sure that I'll likely end up soldering a decoder despite the NEM 651!

Also, this came Friday....  :grin  I covered my intial thoughts on my blog, so far so good!

Going to work everyday, I first go from Venlo to Roermond using some uncomfortable Veolia Diesel thing, but from Roermond to Maastricht, I take the local train, which is an old Plan V (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/Plan_V_gekoppeld.jpg). Some of the sets are in pretty bad shape, and they have problems pulling away form the station. Lots of noise and jerking, but man, I love those trains :)

I read about the MultiMaus on your blog, it seems most people are really happy with it. I do believe the included software is fairly limited, after all, the full Traincontroller program is.. well, pricy :) Still, should be great to do some experimenting with.

My Kato D51 498 has arrived...yay! It is so beautiful it hurts....can't wait to run it on Yamanouchi Oshika this weekend and show it off!  :grin

A few more arrivals--an interesting-looking magazine that, well, I can't even read, and some detail bits for the layout, including a couple of minibuses and a Kato set with a mail truck and two mail scooters.

I have just placed an order at HS for the latest Tomytec Car Collection offering...

http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10141200

I am hoping they are still providing 2 cars per box. at the price these are rising to they better! from the wording on the last two sets it sounds like there are 12 styles as show plus 4 secret ones. no mention if two per box though.

between the poor exchange rate, the increase of list price from 5760yen to 7200yen, and the reduction from three cars to two per box, these are not such a wonderful deal they use to be! still much cheaper than most alternatives that are anywhere near the quality...

cheers

I fell victim again to DeAgostini. Nothing train related though, not N-scale either.. I signed up for the new HMS Victory magazines + building kit. 1 issue per week, total of around 12 issues. Each issue comes with several parts of a massive wooden and metal kit.

Kit is 1:84, which means the Victory has a total length of just over a meter, and a height of close to a meter. Will be interesting to see the quality of it all. I already have an all brass C62 kit from DeAgostini, which seems like really high quality. (I should start building that one at some point as well ;))
