Delivery #2 from the HobbyLink Japan sale, SAL took 12 days vs the EMS time of 5 days. I thought I’d take it out of the box, although a few parts to put on.667DD7FD-4D92-4786-B306-D26E074DC9BE.jpeg.e8412b220a68c636ad5c4ea86a727d45.jpeg

Bagged a Tomix Cassiopeia add-on set. After watching prices veering between £120 and £500 I pounced on one at £116. Amusingly the same seller seemed to be varying the price wildly on Amazon Marketplace.

My very first order arrived from AmiAmi. I bought an N700 basic set in Tokyo a few years back (I mean: 9 years) and later I got the 4 cars add-on, and now it was the time to collect the remaining 8 cars before it disappears from the market. It looks great on track (I made one on the floor just to see it), gives me back the feeling that this train is so loooooong. This is my first 16 cars full-length model train.

You can see (although the quality of the picture is terrible) the length difference between it and a 11 cars E235 set.
And I had to realize that one powered car is not enough to push up the N700 on this elevation.

Uh oh your first 16 car Shinkansen! It’s downhill from here!

That is the unfortunate thing with Kato 16 car Shinkansens, the single motor car does not like inclines...

No, not at all.

I am strong in mind, just as strong as a 100 series Shinkansen if Kato would release it again. 🙂

Can you not source another motor chassis and swap out the base of another car?

Or be an evil genius and swap them all 😈

Yes, those Kato Shinkansens up the standard incline have a bit of a job.

I added the in-between inclines 23-049 to help, especially if you have an incline on part of the curve rather than the standard 248mm straights. This means you don’t get a 22.5 degree bend with a sharp increase in elevation.

These are pretty difficult to find so the fact it was in the sale is even better.  I saw one in Hobbyland Pochi Hakata for a ridiculous  price a few months ago.

These trains run around the bay in Fukuoka from Umi to Saitozaki via Kashii.

If you have any idea where can I get a motor chassis, I would really appreciate it. As it is an old set I do not know where to find one.

Anyway it will run mostly on T-trak modules (and I think mostly as an 8 car set) and those are flat.

I've seen 16-car Kato shinkansen (0, 100, 500 series) do fine on similar layouts to IST's, but they do slow down a bit more than dual-motor shinkansen when climbing a grade.

Interestingly enough, the only 16-car Kato shinkansen that stalled on the grade was a 700 series.

Maybe the 700 series cars are just heavy enough to overwhelm the motor?

Gah, not another 115 series, this time in Minobu Line brown (from 1998, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the line).

Tomix 115-2000 series (Minobu Line, brown) by Rail Squid, on Flickr

I annoyed myself by only checking the description *after* I'd won it, where I noticed it spoke of many cosmetic issues, but apart from slight discolouration of the roof fan ventilators it looks just fine.

Given the recent closure of Kobaru and the likelihood that these items will never be available again I jumped in and got what I could, I’m a bit disappointed that I missed out on a number of items but overall I got a decent haul.

At least you got the house details set, I was too late to get that one. I should have got some of the signs and transfers, two things I don't have much of. I skipped the fences because I still have a bunch of the acetate Tsugawa ones.

Not trains, and certainly not Japanese but thought I d like to share as it s such a nice item, provided again,by junior.

A die cast model of the A380.my intrest being that I was lucky and privileged enough to have worked in the department that produced the panels that went to make up the top and bottom skins of the wings.

the plan was to hang it above the layout but it’s too nice to hang in the shed and it would probably pull the roof down as it weighs an absoloute ton!”😂

The detail is just unbelievable,if it s on the real plane then it’s on this model, absoloutely beautifull, thanks junior👍👍😀

How big is the model? The picture does not give any sense of scale.

The A380 is quite a nice ride. I had the occasion to fly it when it must have been 80% empty between Kuala Lumpur and Dubai.
