Arrived home to find some nice little packages from Japan waiting for me. Some Tomix TaKis and a Casco box to storing my other TaKis. Also, I'm about to have my first working Tram

Nice!  When the tram is working, make sure to post!  I am interested in learning about that.

Is your trip over already?  Seems like you just left.

Ha, yes. The time flew by for us too. We had a great time. The old DDR was especially fun. Very few people there spoke English. They had no choice but to listen to my German - I felt like a pro. Back in the west it was like "ok, one mistake and we're switching to English". Germany is as awesome as I remembered it.

Cool.  Glad you enjoyed it.  I have not been since 2000 when the wife and I spent a week there.   I have a reunion happening in Munich in June 2020 and think I will bring my daughter.  Like 8 days or something.  I am looking forward to it.  We also want to go to Japan in the summer of 2020 to visit family and hopefully the Tokyo Olympics so the wife has to save her paid time off at work (or otherwise I'd bring her of course).

Since this is the Japanese train equipment receipt thread, I had a few things come in and finally have a Hobby Search package that shows hitting my local PO so I expect that tomorrow.  It is mostly freight cars -- I'll post picks of them and the other stuff received after it comes.  DHL is coming tomorrow as well for my very last Amazon until the pre orders start shipping later this year.  A Shika-Shima E001 "suite train" showed up on Amazon this week for an awesome price, sold by Amazon itself, so I decided to splurge on that and it is arriving tomorrow.  Id on't know how many Amazon had but I got the last one they had themselves available.

My good-deal KATO Shiki Shima came, as well as a Tomix 225-5100 (runs in Osaka to Wakayama and to Kansai airport) along with some Tomix close-type couplers.  That was from Amazon.co.jp.   Then my first SAL from Hobby Search came.  It was mostly freight cars, and 3 KATO diesel engines (1 x De10 and 2 x DD13).

I did not take a lot of pics because there are lots of pics of the KATO Shiki Shima already in the forum.  The Shiki Shima at 10 cars is almost too long for my test track on the kitchen table.  I could run it maybe 18-24 inches.

(Looks like one of the images is upside down -- sorry.)

Nice haul chad!  Do your kato DD13's growl?  I recently got one and I find that the motor seems to vibrate and make a lot of noise.  I'm planning to add a shim or two to secure it, but it seems that the frame just doesn't hold the motor very securely.   I really like the blue and yellow colored version!

I have not tried running them today and the DHL guy came with the Amazon before the Post Lady (normally a dude but he is off Mondays) and so by the time they came I had the test track put away.  I will try them soon.  Even then it is a straight track and they won't get much of a work out.  I am doing a side job for the next 3 weeks which is taking up my weekends and evenings (to pay for all this loot) but when it is done I will set up a larger oval on the kitchen table and give a lot of this a real break in and work out.  (I will also get the semi-perm layout frame started -- can't wait).

The blue and yellow DD13 is supposedly a "track maintenance" version and is from the "KATO Custom Shop".  I like the looks of it too.

Sounds good!  Mine growls even in a straight line at low speed, but otherwise runs flawlessly.  Its one of the few locomotives I've been tempted to purchase more than one of.

Anyone want to drop 151,000 Yen?

While pricey, I suppose for five rare 10 car sets each would be about 30000 which is not outside what I've seen used sets go for on Yahoo auctions.  To the right buyer it may be a deal for the convince alone.  I for one am not that buyer.  :grin

Hmm, close to 6 foot of yard after adding on some S280s, but it's necessary if using more then 2 car trains.

Generally 14 cm for each car (aka. one 280 mm piece for every two cars) plus the size of the turnout area, which is roughly 5 cars long. On the bright side, the space is greatly reduced between the tracks, so more tracks fit side by side.
