I was originally going to leave it as a half train, but it just looked too short. The full train looks much better. Link to comment

Soon it will be complete again!! Those are Kato TaKi 43000s. I like them a lot. The TaKi train looks much better with some color mix. I've also ordered some Kato and Tomix navy blue TaKi 1000s. I hope that isn't over doing it. 1 Link to comment
serotta1972
Finally got me some Japanese trains - had a little drought. Got me the Tomix E1 and this thing is a beast with 2 motor cars back to back. And I love these fancy special boxes with very cool train art. 12 Link to comment
serotta1972
Also got some Kato diesels. 10 Link to comment
Kiha66
I got the Kato 181 series I ordered back in mid January from a banzai sale, no tracking so I had no idea when it was comming. Beautiful model, and also I threw in some passenger style couplers to update most of my passenger car fleet. 11 Link to comment
tt0880
Another big package from Model Trains Plus arrived! Excuse my poor photo taking skills... The whole haul! The Track Cleaning Car is actually for one of my fellow club members (I already have one of my own) but the rest is for me. I'm really excited about this one. This is a special train that ran to promote a video game called Romancing Saga. Although I've never played it, I have a huge soft spot for Japanese Role Playing Games like this, so buying the train will definitely make me want to play it. I just appreciate how unique and geeky it is... Perfect for me! But this box was hands down the best thing... This is my first Tomix train that came in a book and I gotta say I really appreciate how sturdy they are. Here it is! I'm super excited to run this train, the 183 is a staple Japanese train for me. One last picture of the side of this beauty. So yeah, that was my haul for today! Now it's time to put a freeze on my account... 5 Link to comment
Kiha66
Nice haul TT! I really like the detail on the 485series roof, kato just paints the whole thing silver but on the tomix version all that detail really stands out. Link to comment
chadbag
DHL came nice and early today with a package from amazon.co.jp. There were supposed to be two from amazon.co.jp, and the one that arrived was actually forecast for tomorrow by Amazon, and the one that is now in Cincinnati, was forecast to arrive today. Oh well. The track shows a customs delay in Tokyo for the one. Anyway, today the Tomix 92491 set came (EF210 locomotive, 2 x KoKi 107, containers), with an extra KoKi 106 (Tomix 8722), and 2 each of the Tomix 3114 and 3115, which are tank container 2-packs. Also in some of the pictures is my Kato EF210 for comparison purposes. I've had it for a month already (also thanks to amazon.co.jp). I thought I get the Tomix EF210 as a way to test the Tomix freight engines and also as it was a kller deal price-wise, with the 2 Koki and containers for a really good price. Here we have both the Kato and Tomix EF210. Kato on the left. The Tomix, on the left looks like it will be a bugger to convert to DCC. I did take it apart a little, and the lights should be easy, and if I can get the body halves apart, a little Kapton tape may make the motor isolation easy. We'll have to see... 5 Link to comment
Philphil
I'm starting to wonder if USPS lost my most recent package, it's been MIA for close to a week... Link to comment

That can happen, I had one go missing for half a month, then turn up on the other coast. Hopefully it will show up soon enough. Link to comment

It really makes me happy that all brands seem to have the same quality, with just minor differences. I really do like my Tomix trains as much as my Kato ones, and vice versa. I only have one MicroAce (a tram) but it's also great! Gotta love that Japanese craftsmanship! Link to comment

When I have a spare moment, I will try and do an in-depth review of the KATO and Tomix EF210 for comparison sake. Probably when I install the DCC chips, as then I will have them torn apart. Will also run them on DC first a bunch. Right now it is a time-issue. Link to comment
chadbag
I went on a container ordering spree yesterday. Probably shouldn't have. I went on Amazon.co.jp and searched for Tomix 31xx. Almost any part number Tomix 31xx, where xx = 01 -- 99, are containers of some sort in N scale. (Confusingly, Tomix also has HO-31xx for HO sized containers, which DON'T match their N scale sister part number). Almost every one that I did not already have (and some that I did where I figured I needed another pack or two), I added to my cart. I had to break it into two orders as some were only sold through their marketplace partners who won't ship to the US, so those ones I am shipping to my MIL. The rest (about 1/2 based on order value) will be shipped to me next week. I'll post a pic when they come. The ones going to the MIL may not show up here for a good long while. My SIL will eventually pick them up and send them, but I don't want to bother or press them on it since they are doing me a favor. (They like me, so are happy to do it but I don't want to wear out the favor). Tomix has a LOT of different packs of containers of various sorts. Link to comment
chadbag
Another box from amazon.co.jp arrived today. It was supposed to come yesterday, but was a day late due to being put on "hold" at DHL. Appears it was set aside for a random security scan or something. You can see how the box is re-taped and labeled. Inside was a Tomix Shinkansen 100 (JR West -- green stripe -- 6 car set). My son and I rode on one of the Green Stripe JR West 100 Shinkansen trains a while ago when he was younger. It was a Kodama service and we specifically found a 100 in the timetable to go ride a few stops on. Probably like 7-10 years ago. Also a bunch of (older) tank cars of various colors. I assume these are older JNR era cars. Plus 2 Tomix Koki 50000 Edited February 28, 2018 by chadbag 6 Link to comment

railsquid
An EH500 of the cheap, non-running kind, the none-runningness being attributable to the camshaft which drives the No. 2 end having come out of one socket, an easy enough fix. Kato EH500 by Rail Squid, on Flickr 7 Link to comment

Catalogue number is 3037 (2nd series EH500, as opposed to 3037-1 which is 3rd series) and lot number indicates it was made in 2000, so it's certainly a very early model. Not sure about a "fancy" sleeve, though it does have a shaped transparent overlay thing in place of the usual Kato bubblewrap. Link to comment

That one comes in a cardboard box with a sleeve. I think this is the only 1st series EH500 model that was made. 2 Link to comment
Philphil
Went way outside my comfort zone in two way last night, first, I purchased a set of Greenmax Tobu rolling stock (a brand I've never purchased before), AND, this time I shopped on the Buyee 'Standard Plan' JUST TO BE SAFE!!! 1 Link to comment
Welshbloke
Depending on the age it may be somewhat growly, but the paint and detailing should be good. That sums up my lone powered GreenMax model anyway. Link to comment

I know what you mean. I ordered my first Microace trainset and put in a reservation on a Greenmax set. I was just starting to feel comfortable with Tomix (instead of KATO), despite their DCC unfriendliness. Link to comment
chadbag
So, there was a knock today. Yellow DHL truck out front and friendly DHL guy at the door. Had to sign for a box. Says "amazon.co.jp" on it. This is what is inside: An EF64, and 2 EF510. All new re-releases or I think the red EF510 is a new release (since its part number does not ace a -X on it). Here are the individual locomotives on the track, posing for your pleasure. Speedwise the EF64 is much faster. The two EF510s are basically neck and neck over 6 ft of straight track. I have another EF64 (different livery) I got in January. I'll have to dig it out and see how the 2 EF64s compare. 7 Link to comment
