Set of eight Kato TAKI 1000 tank cars arrived today via SAL from HS.

Can you confirm if the wheels are silver like in the picture, rather then blackened?

Yes the wheels are silver, about the only negative thing about the cars. I might look at replacing them with Fox Valley Models metal wheelsets because they really stand out on a tank car where the wheels are more visible.

there HERE!!! :grin :grin

The mailman dropped off my m250 4 car + 4 car power set

that makes all 16 cars for me!!!  Tuesday night I'll run them

at the club. I'm the only guy there with a fondness for Japanese

trains ???

The only guy in the club!! Maybe you can change some members minds when they see it run.  :dontknow:

Tell us how it goes.

Before and after, FVM wheels on the right.

I'm tempted to pre-order Kato's newly announced "UP City of Los Angeles" set. An E9A-E9B-E9B-E9A combo with 11 cars. I believe all 4 locomotive parts are motorized =)

Mainly for my American Named Trains collection which I started recently when I pre-ordered the GS-4 "Morning Daylight" locomotive (I do hope they'll re-release those cars too =))

Kato have already done a second run of the Daylight cars. You could try M.B.Klein http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/product-p/kat-106060.htm, they still have the basic set in stock, no add-on sets though.

I just almost instantly hit the order button (think I'll wait for the loco to arrive at least =)) Seems the 2-car addons are a bit more difficult to get though. But considering they re-released the loco (or at least, the steamer), wouldn't that mean they'd be doing another run of the cars as well?

My assembled Greenmax "station over parking" thing just arrived, and looks pretty good. The unpainted powered Hakone Tozan models arrived, too. The seller had said they thought the power units were Kato, but in fact they say Tomix 2620. That seems to be the model number of one of the Tomix "Bernina" sets, but how the power units from those sets got to be in a couple of what appear to be Greenmax 605 "Moha 1 + Moha 2" sets I'm not sure.

After admiring for a few years, I've finally ordered a Kato E3 "Komachi" set, can't wait for delivery, such a great looking train and wonderful colour scheme

Graham - I just got the Tomix version of the E3 and it is a beautiful set, you'll love it! In the Tomix version the motor is in the head car and the nose does come off to reveal the coupler. I'm curious if the Kato version is the same.

The Kato E3 has a mechanism to slide open the nose the way the prototype does.

David - On the Kato version is the motor in the head car?

No, it's in the middle car with a half-shroud for the pantograph (not the one with the pantograph itself, the one with the shorter half of the shroad).

Edit: I assume we're talking about the original Kato E2 set (6-car). The new E2-1000 (4 car basic) set has the motor car in the middle car without the pantograph (the E225-1400 class car that has fewer seats/windows)

The nose coupling feature of the e3 isn't something I had really thought of before, but of course now you've mentioned it I have to start saving for an e2!!  damn you all!!!!! :) :) :)

I love this forum

you know what.. I really do, I've had more fun with trains and reading about trains since I joined than I have in since I was a teenager trainspotting in the UK!

Who knows how Kato think? If they had announced the train to go with the American Freedom Train GS4 I'd have had my credit card out in a flash.

hey hey,

I didn't order.. but I received a train today.. woot!

It's (not quite, but close to) RapitBunny's and my anniversary.  We exchanged gifts this afternoon, and I was surprised with a train I wasn't sure I would ever own..

Behold.. my latest painted train!

That's a really nice set--I especially like "spring" and "fall," but that's usually true. Where did the prototype run?

Where did the prototype run?

It was a JR East train on the Ōme Line, ran from 2001 to 2009.  In 2005 it got a new paint job.

Scott - what is this Greenmax "station over parking" thing?  Is it #30?  The building with an overhead walkway?  Or is it some kitbash?

Nice looking girlie train :)))

Real men buy painted trains!

Sure you can.. leave hints, like a file on the desktop labeled "My Wishlist" with direct links to some trains you really want.

Listening to her hobbies and interests helps a lot too.. I never thought I would know so much about yarn and knitting.. for instance, did you know the musk-ox fibers (qiviut) are 8x warmer than wool and softer than cashmere?  Also, a little ball of this yarn costs as much as a 6 car Kato set!  When people asked me what I got her for Christmas (last year) and I said "A ball of yarn.." they looked at me, and often said "Seriously?"  yet, she absolutely loves it.. so much so that she can't decide what to make with it.. so it sits on display (much like my trains) for the meantime.
