Ordered a ET6 Flirt Eurobahn in Rhein Ruhr Express colors for my father. It's a rather nice train with the added benefit that it makes a stop at the station near to where I live ;)

Does the train "flirt" with girls?   Anyway here is picture for your enjoyment.  :grin

It'll probably be flirting with the steam locomotives, seems most engineers consider them female ;)

HS just restocked the Apple Green version of the Setagaya 300 Series tram, so I just had to order one. And while I was it, I ordered one of their "Choco Den 2009" Enoshima Dentetsu 2000 trams, which has nothing to do with my usual "Tokyo" modeling, but I really like how it looks.

A triumph of impulse buying.  :grin

Oh well, it's been more than a month since I bought a train.

What I did *not* buy: I was at the hobby shop looking for (non-RR) presents for Anders's birthday, and took a look at their stock of N-scale buildings while I was there. The pricing was, um, *whimsical.* A smaller Faller greenhouse kit, which lists for the already-crazy price of $28, was marked $43!

Ordered some more Peco track (5 left medium turnouts, 7 right medium turnouts, 10 flex tracks), but it'll probably take a while to get here. Seems the importer in the Netherlands isn't really fast in getting stuff, so the store I ordered it from is obviously not that fast either =)

My Tomix Wide Tram Track pre-order and Tomytec Showa office building and Showa apartment should arrive tomorrow according to EMS tracking.  A large Tomix order shipped today with viaduct track pieces, Wide PC track and a few additional pieces of Wide Tram Track.  In addition, a couple of long out of production Tomix vehicles arrived today from Wellington Models.

Nothing at the time but I really want to buy myself a train. I didn't indulge myself since I went to Japan and I'm missing that little package. I just don't know what to buy.  :grin

Another pair of Tenshodo steeple cabs and some Tomix Kotoden cars. When I get home for work I'll post a photo.

Cheers,

Mark.

My wife just ordered the Kato 185-200 series "Express 185" for my upcoming birthday! woot!

Where can I get a wife like yours?  :grin

;) There's only one!

I keep telling Nik (even though he's only 11) that he has no idea how lucky we are to have a wife\mom like ours, to tolerate (and sometimes encourage) our habit.... (but to answer your question, how about "kansas"?)

Recieved my stuff. At 1400 yen for a pair the Taki 1900 is a really great value with lots of detail and breakable plastic bits. Along with the rest of my freight they'll be changed to Kato knuckle couplers from rapido.

The Microace MCR600 is going to be clearing snow for the E127s, and I from a few minutes running it seems like a good value for 3800 yen.

As you can see in the first 2 pictures, there is a lot of articulation (the exhaust for the snow blower also rotates). The rotary bit doesn't turn (it can move a bit but the shape prevents a full rotation) though I think that's expected. Detail is good though the articulated bits could have used a bit of shading or seperate parts to add depth. There are no working lights, though they are painted on well and there are some good wind shield wipers.

The cab is not modeled though it is somewhat open. The cover(s) are easy to take off, and as you can see it's a pretty straight forward affair for the motor - I think it would be a very simple job if you want to wire a decoder - either putting it in the cab, or hiding a Z scale one in one of the 2 cavities.

The mechanism is honestly a bit primitive. Springs pass current from the axle wipers to the motor, while the motor is a really basic affair, turning a gear which in turn rotates 2 worm gears for the front and rear axle which are fixed since this is a 4 wheeler. The bad part is that all the gearing is metal, except the gear on the axle, I can't tell if it's metal or hard plastic, which is a pretty good reason why this model is so noisy. A short run in has removed the screaching by getting that gunky lubrication evened out, but it still makes a deep heavy buzz (compared to the quieter, higher pitched buzz of most models that aren't super quiet). If it was an electric switcher the sound might be close to prototypical. One element I'll look at is how the motor is attached to the frame - there seems to be some up/down give on the front, which would mean it's vibrating unnecessarily.

David-

We have a number of the Microace MCR600 snowplows.  They are indeed fun little trains for the price.  They are relatively easy (but ugly) to convert to DCC- in fact, they were my first wire-ins.

The other neat thing to do with these snow plows is to turn them into little specialty MOW cars. in real life the plows can come off in other seasons and they can pick up things like little cranes, shovels, augers, and the like or be used to haul some mow cars around. can even keep the removed plows sitting there in the corner of the maintenance yard!

i was looking at using the little crane on that multipurpose wrecker that was in the maruka construction set 1 for a crane potentially.
