Ordered a Piko Dutch 1200 series locomotive. Couldn't resist any longer, still one of my all time favourite locomotives, saw a LOT of them when growing up.

I went with the grey/yellow version, since that's the one I saw the most, but I'll likely get the blue version at some point as well. Possibly also a 2nd grey/yellow one, considering they announced another of them with a different running number.

http://www.piko-shop.de/index.php?vw_type=artikel&vw_id=21533

I have it, bought it on day 1 of its availability. Got the last one in store, too. It is magnificent, with great details. Only thing is it runs quite a lot slower than the Japanese trains. Also, the other grey/yellow one has more differences: no handlebars on the front, and 5 lights instead of 3. I might get it too, however.

some more items from a large collection received yesterday. Acquired by owner in Early to late 80's.

The Microace set has Shinano Micro on plastic lids. Runs well.

I have a 100 series Shinkansen by Tomix which is a slightly later model.

The EF65 is new, never run from original purchase period in 1980's. Amtrak shell to be fitted.

The 7000 series has cosmetic paint damage , but runs really nice

The 103 series was free as he couldn't get it to run. The shell was very brittle on motor unit and broke into several pieces. Corrosion around gears which I am cleaning, but the motor unit runs sweet.

Ah, didn't know the new one also had a different design. I don't know much about the trains other than that I really like them. They were fairly commonly seen pulling intercities back when I was growing up :)

As for the speed, the Japanese loco's are actually all WAY too fast. I've done some speed measurements on some of the trains I installed a decoder in, and for some of them I was getting like 500km/h at full speed. Even the Kato GG1 was going somewhere around 450km/h :D

Last week I received a letter from Sankei. It was accompanied by the part that my Ramen Shop kit was missing and a teapot/Sankei phone strap.  :love10:

I think that's valid for near all model locos. Even if my impression is, it bettered over time. Compared to present ones, 1970s models are really road- (well, rail-)runners.

A thumb rule is: in N, 10cm per second equals about 60 kph model-speed.

Heavy box with an smd rework hot air station. While I don't need it to pop smd components out, it's great as a more controllable heat gun for heat shrink and to quickly dry some glue or paint. Has controls for both air and heat and 6 different sized tips, I hate toasting my fingers with even the small heat gun on small heat shrink bits. $30 on ebay figured I would treat myself! Works nicely.

I wanted to hunt for a Tōbu 6050 Series in the neighbourhood, but didn't come across one. Eventually decided on getting some things for my layout. The main station building with platform, a set of tunnel portals for one side, a little jar of brown rusty paint, and a few styrene sheets for a future building project for my cutter plotter:

Today I received my JAUCE auction win via a much delayed EMS delivery courtesy of Australia Post, 46 hours from Tottori to Kingsford Smith via Kansai International and then more than double that from Chullora to my place which takes only 40 minutes by car, god it must be hard to run an efficient postal service. Anyway enough with my first world problems and onto the goodies, the Holy Grail of Keihan Keishin stock the Tomytec Keihan exclusive model of the 80 Series with air conditioner.

So I got the first visit to the customs office in 2017 off my list as well. Was good to see that it's still as uncomplicated as last year (if you arrive early enough).

I brought home a Tomix KiHA 71 Yufuin no Mori.

I was looking for a KiHa 71 for quite a while. Almost bought the MicroAce version but then this one showed up. I'm glad I went for it.

While not the newest, it's a superb High Grade Model.

Just some readings from Japanese Amazon, so an RM Models magazine with a calendar for 2017 (including aerial photos) and 2 child books about trains, but these are also for me. :)

Me also. Plus katakana and really few kanjis. RM Models is for the pictures, it always has nice layout ideas.

Just the shed for the piglets is wrong size, it's for Z gauge... maybe this doesn't matter too much for the piggies...

Got my NS 1200 series, great looking loco, but it doesn't run quite well just yet. I had the same issue with my other Piko train and ESU decoder, the default settings on the decoder don't work well with the motors that Piko uses. Still need to fine tune it.

Also, ordered a bunch of adjustable feet for the main station sections. Will also get the wood cut for those sometime soon.

New Kato catalog. I wonder if there's anything in here that I need :)

Edit: Actually there is some but minimal difference between the 2017 catalog and the only other one I have (2014)

But at least now I don't have to wonder what I might be missing.

Tomix E1 Shinkansen:

Tomix E1 Shinkansen by Rail Squid, on Flickr

Came in a basic layout set from 1995/96 for 4000 yen, the train itself is in excellent condition apart from the coupling hook being broken on one of the power car bogies. Fortunately replacements are available, unfortunately they're for a newer version and don't quite fit, fortunately I was able to hack bits off the new one onto the old one.

Useful gizmo for prising apart bits of plastic, or sliding between body and chassis:

The E1 old colour! What a coincidence that I was also looking on Yahoo Auctions for this, especially the motor car as mine has died....

Does your car lights up on the front and tail lights? Mine doesn't also...

Link to comment

Yup, all lights working. I bet someone bought this 20 years ago, played with it until the coupling broke, and it's been stored away ever since.

Have you taken them apart to see where the problem might be? If the lights themselves work, you should be able to tweak the contacts back into life somehow. In particular check the contact springs on the bogies, they might have compressed.

This was lying around in our local and ghetto BookOff for years. It's an incomplete set, with only the curves and fences included, but that's okay with me. I really didn't want to use the straight rails anyway, as I intend to use these tracks for T-Trak modules. Straight tracks included in this set are S248's, whereas a single T-Trak module consists of an S186 and S124 parts, but of these type of rails S62 don't exist. The curved catenary portals also aren't there, but I personally really don't care about those, as you don't see these around too often anyway. :P

IMG_20170113_151643.jpg

A little long term investment, as this will be enough for four corner modules!
