A teensy bit modern for my tastes but having been through Tachikawa station a few times recently these have been growing on me.

Kato EH200 by Rail Squid, on Flickr

Need to get some green oil tanks for it to pull I gues.

They certainly are a pretty impressive looking unit when you see them in the flesh, you don't need a whole heap of Taki 1000's to run behind them either as they do get used on mixed freight trains as well.

Was able to snag this on the 'bay:

Also expecting some Kato Amfleet P42 to arrive today:

After a really impressive travel between Seattle and Emeryville 2 weeks ago, I have to get a similar Kato set, but from the western side of the US, so a Superliner set with a P42 (or with 2 P42s)

Grabbed these from the bargains bin... could always do with more taxis and vans for the layout...

And took me long enough to finally decide to get the 205-600 series... For the Nikko Line. This is mostly out of stock elsewhere and I think I got the final set from Ami...

The major difference are the lights. The new set has two different colours for the inner and outer set of headlamps.

Then, if your old set is really old, it won't have the additional underfloor parts attached to the bogies which came with the last re-release.

My sets are quite old, so they don't have them and the Kato assy parts 28-160 are like sold out forever, even though Kato's website does state that they were re-released last month...

My package from Japan arrived today!

Plus also went to a decent sized train show this weekend in Deland, FL.  There was a decent amount of N Scale items there, but little Kato and no Tomix, MicroAce or Greenmax items.

One guy had Kato stuff but the prices were double priced.  I looked at him and I hate to generalize, but he looked like he lived at home in his mom's basement (mom was working with him and in a wheelchair).

Another vendor had Kato items and I picked up a few items (including Amfleet Set B) for a little over e-bay prices.  Sales tax + entry fee made it less tolerable but I drove nearly 1 hour to get there so I didn't want to leave empty handed.

If I was looking for N.A. rolling stock, there was plenty to choose from but anything that interested me was a little overpriced, didn't look to be in the best shape (like a Kato Amtrak P42 where someone didn't insert the plastic numbered pieces into the loco) or very well cared for.

Kind of sad that people ditch things into a box to let people paw through instead of taking time to display properly.

Thing of note is the scale / gauge designation on the boxes in the attached.  One is Kato USA and one is Kato Japan

Oh dear - looks like we're going USA-crazy on here!

My latest arrival is a Kato Chicago Metra set

Metra%201_zpsppexhotb.jpg

Metra%202_zpsbfasyvbr.jpg

Why the departure I hear you cry?

Well, as some may be aware I visited the US back in July to drive Route 66 from Chicago to LA. Lots of trains, but a chance capture was this, from the roof bar at a hotel in Chicago...

137_zpscnnu1nfu.jpg

Look closely and you will see the loco is #137 'City of West Chicago'. Well, as one of the Kato Metra F40s was this loco, it was inevitable one should be added to the stud. Once the loco was obtained, a set of carriages would be needed. Now all I need to do is add a couple of intermediates to make a full rake. Hmmm, how to get a sound chip to come close to the noise one of these things make!

As a little aside, my little souvenir from out in the states came from a shop in Burbank, LA. An Intermountain ES44AC in BNSF livery - with sound! Really quite lovely.

A good day for me with two parcels arriving, the first was an order from AmiAmi which included a load for a UM8A Container that had been delayed, I added some further items to the order including some Unitram track and U48A-38000. The second order was my first dalliance with JAUCE, I picked up some Tomytec Railway collection 17 sets, a Keihan 350 Series and the full Keihan 600 Series.

Very nice!  I am waiting on a Hankai Tramway 163 from HS as well, although they seem to be out of the TM-TR04.  Hopefully more will come into stock soon.

I got two MicroAce sets which were too good of a deal to pass on.

JR Hokkaido 785 series Suzuran set NE-501

I guess this is my newest MicroAce set so far. The previous owner even installed TN couplers, wich is extra nice.

JR 185 Series <<<Express 185>>>

post-3895-0-72173000-1475618895_thumb.jpg

This one, along with other 185 series sets, is the first EMU set MicroAce ever released, dating back to 1999. To be honest, it's almost laughably bad when you look at it up close. The plastic is very cheap, thick and lacks many details. The cars are very light, EXCEPT the motor car, since the motor is housed inside of a giant metal block which fills the entirety of the car. It's by far the heaviest motor car/locomotive I own.

post-3895-0-92655600-1475618897_thumb.jpg

Probably double the weight of my Kato EF210.

Keep in mind that this model is "only" 17 years old.

However, the motor runs surprisingly well.

The reason why I got this set is for one, the place it holds in MicroAce's history, and then the great overall condition it is in. Even the cardboard box doesn't have a single tear or scuff.

TM-TR04 was restocked this morning. It's wise to use the waiting list feature on new items that sell out on arrival. They normally come back into stock in a matter of days.

anybody got any dimensions for the TM-TR04 and the TM-TR05?

Also ,I couldn't resist this http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?scode=RAIL-18647-D001  as I don't have many Shinkansen in my collection. Also means I will have to keep an eye out for reasonable priced add on sets. Darn!

I have messaged AmiAmi and hoping they can wrap items individually without the  box for set, to keep postage down.

That's a steal! That's the reward for diligently checking ami's sales section! Kudos!

But the shipping would be nasty... I haven't tried with Ami, but other retailers are more reluctant to remove boxes, like HS or Plaza Japan, mostly due to the fear of losing items and getting complains of missing parts/ items... Let's hope Ami is more flexible on this..

Tomix 98017, 98018 and 98958 - stunning trains! Love the liveries and the painted car is a bonus.

You are so right JR500. shipping is 5800Y for SAL Parcel. Ouch! Oh well! Works out the same as the normal price of the set with free freight to NZ. HaHa!  I tried to get them to reconsider unpacking box to ship items separately, but no go. they made a comment about contacting them for shipping fees before placing order. That's fine in most cases, but this was obviously a one item special due to box damage and I am sure it would have sold very quickly if I had hesitated. I might have to list it on our local auction site when it arrives if the box is reasonable. Hopefully recover my costs
