Some bootie from a club member moving overseas. Resistance was futile... Some good bits for kitbashing.

Cheers

Jeff

Some day I'm going to eventually do something with the two sets of bunkhouse/signal tower kits I have...

Recently received a parcel from our good friend at MTP for a VERY long pre-order that was FINALLY fulfilled by MicroAce...

Perfectly good packing by MTP as always, with a free pamphlet....

Grabbed a Tomytec Tobu that was on sale at the same time... can always do with more Tobu rolling stock...

Looks good, even better when parked together with the other Tobu

Look at the new packaging of MA two car set!

post-819-0-82896100-1475022217_thumb.jpg

I'm loving it! It's a hard cover box with a lift top, with magnets at the bottom to firmly close the box... It looks so much nicer now and more 'expensive' over their former paper box with crystal case inside... Kudos on the change of packaging MA!

The Misuzu-Shiosai is just beautiful... I am glad to have pre-ordered this set, and the patience to wait for it!

The coloring and special shaped windows are really sweet ~

Something is amiss here - I'm having a difficult time comprehending that you only got 2 and 2 car sets at that where it used to be 4-6 6 car sets per delivery.  I see we are being more selective these days JR500.  Actually me too.  :)

Indeed... perhaps we have reached a state of selective imports of rolling stock? For me, it is more like a state of emergency for the lack of city funds ~  :)

You can count on me :grin

But the inside of those new MA boxes, is that plastic or white polyurethane?

Not ordered and the post did not deliver, but there is a new train in my fleet. :)

I bought this Kato 30th anniversary set from serotta1972 who handed over it to me in Los Altos, so we could test it a little bit on the layout. It is a very nicely running set, so it worth its price.

Beside of this I bought 2 JRF magazines in the Kinokuniya store in Manhattan.

It's a very nice set. Thank you! But now I somehow gotta find the 4-car add-on set... :sad1:

nice enough price for the ACS-64 set.  well done.  figure i'll get one eventually though the red pantos put me off a bit.

my tetsudou collection ginza 2000 set came intoday (6 cars + motor + wheels/etc).   havent had time to look at it, but it does look to be of a quality sufficiently commensurate for the $120 or so i paid for it (shipped to uk from japan)

I was going back and forth on what price to snipe the auction at and I had my max set to $155.  With the shipping, that would have been my limit to spend on that set.  Buying in the US, the closest I've seen that set at was just under $200 before shipping so I was pleased but prepared to walk if it got above my mark.  That's the nice thing about using something like JBidwatcher - set the price and don't let impulse jump the threshold.

That was the goal. Also picked up a SEPTA and a PTC trolley for my set-up (Bachmann).

Trying to model this display on my Philly roots and my youth spent on SEPTA in Philly with Amtrak being close by and integral into the transportation system in the area.

im also originally from philly.  there's a guy (island model works?) who makes a few septa items in n gauge.  he has only a few left, so i bought one.    i think it was a silverliner II.  havent put it together yet.

there are also some sellers (including maybe islandmodelworks) selling stuff via shapeways, including a tomix chassis compatible orange line subway.

the bachmann trolley is awful, but at least its cheap.  presumably you paid $20 or so or less.

what would be really awesome is if kato released the ACS-64 in septa colors, since that's the only other operator last i checked.  though it would be a very weird, highly specific release if they did.

update to my tetsudou collection ginza line 2000 purchase.i purchased 3 2-car sets.

the lot that i bought included the tt-03r undercarriage and wheel sets and the tm-10r motor unit.  after a bit of time playing with this it is clear that there is no point to install this.

for about the same price, i can purchase a used (hopefully "junk") kato 01 set and use the superior motor and underfloor units from that plus will benefit from a far better coupling system.  will the underfloor hardware be the same?  no.  i dont care.. the win is far worth it and i can use the tomytec motor and other parts for other projects.

in my tests, the kato body units are about 11mm too long.  this can easily be shaved down to fit the tomix chassis perfectly. additionally, the light setup for the end cars is not a good match for the tomytec cars but maybe something can be worked out.

price comparison:

buying a kato 01 set and installing this:  total cost about JPY 8000 hopefully. less if i'm lucky, more if not.

 - get a better motor

 - get end lights (need to be creatively installed though)

 - get better coupling than even tomix tn

 - get better qualty bogies

 - get a case

 - get extra 01 series bodyshells to sell on or whatever.

buying tomytec add-on parts:

  - tn couplers 2 packs = 1300 x 2 = 2600

  - tt-03r x 3 = 1000 x 3 = 3000

  - motor unit tm-10r = 3600

 = total 9200

in other words, going with tomytec stuff is a far worse solution.

I saw the Island works and shapeways sites.  I am not artistic (or patient) enough to paint and apply decals to a body that is so small.  I am going to "fudge" the MFL and BSL with Kato E233 Kehin-Tohoku and Chuo lines (respectively).  Not that they will be truly represented either with the Viaduct track set being put into the layout

Yeah, I got the trolley on the cheap.  There are people selling them for more money than they are worth for sure and I am not expecting quality by any means.  Will keep it maintained as best as possible and expect it to be noisy.

SEPTA and Amtrak are the only ones currently slated to use the US built ACS-64 (with SEPTA still waiting on delivery).  I think it would be awesome if Kato would build a SEPTA variant like they do for Metra and VRE

For once I didn't order a train set. Amazing, I know.

But I'm sure the DHL delivery man wished it was only a train. :icon_biggrin:

Got this station set in the Bay. Was quite a bargain too.

Almost missed the postal service guy today...he rang the bell but didn't drop and by the time I got outside (after holding back the dogs), he was writing the "missed you" slip.  I was able to get him to reverse that and took the box off his hands.

I have a V11 set in route too but that is coming via FedEx ground and it was last seen leaving Ocala - not too far away but won't be here before Monday.

I just squeaked in a reservation two nights ago for a 98958 Limited Edition JR KiHa 40 Series (KiHa 40 Niigata Color, Blue, KiHa 48 Tadami Enmusubi) Set (2 Cars) at AmiAmi when i noticed they had it still up for reservation (and 30% off as well) and not available anymore elsewhere and so impulse clicked! Released today so all paid up, now the two week wait!

Ive been trying to be good not buying many trains as too many now to play with so looking to smaller trains mainly as may do a smaller sectional layout next year that will like smaller trains anyway.

now go hunt the Acela and HHP8 from bachmann. :D

and AEM7 too.

I have a NIB Acela on my watch list but the price is a bit more than I have this week. Maybe it will hold out until then.

Going to a train show tomorrow so we shall see if anything presents itself there.

But there are no AEM-7 outside of buying a printed shell and making one yourself.

Uh oh a moment of weakness for Jeff - I too just ordered the Tomix 98958 along with the Tomix 98017 and 98018 to add to my 2 car Kiha Fleet.
