Another small order from AmiAmi that arrived last week. I now have 6 double packs of the Tomix Hoppers which should look very nice as a 12 wagon train . Not sure what loco would be pulling them??The DD13 and EF210 were too good to pass up at 4400yen each

The EF58 was an old parts model which I am fiddling with by turning the main bogies 180 degrees and using a powered bogie from an ED75  or similar( which had damaged gearing )to convert into a centre bogie . I will have to come up with a new classification for the loco when finished.

Finally found my digital camera :D

This turned up on Monday and flew hrough with no charges despite being sent EMS

To add to my collection of 8 car commuter rolling stock. A nice (used) E217.

Chosen because I like the colour scheme and also Clam Jr told me i have to have at least 1 double decker train - I guess I could add this to the lame excuse thread too :D

Little world kougei steeple cab came today, couldn't resist when it came back in stock. Nice details and little drive mech with a micro motor in each truck geared not one axle. Will be interesting to see how it runs, mit looks very cleanly made.

I'm really liking these hybrid world kougei kits, interesting trains, nice details and nice price!

Also a few misc Tomytec figure packs I wanted that we're back in stock.

Cheers

Jeff

Those little new World engines also have me intrigued for a little while already, but I can't really bring myself to decide on which one fits my interests best. The Kōnan, Tōshiba and Kawasaki engines all look good! The recently announced KuMoYa 22 container EMU also looks attractive...

Is it just my imagination, or is this thread slowing down a bit recently?

Feels like there used to be almost daily posts of huge shipments arriving that we could drool over...
Anyway, I finally splashed on the Red Wing and Hankyu that I've wanted for a while.

That was when the ¥ was at a more palatable level, now we all tend to cry when we receive our payment notices.

Considering my cashflow is mostly in US Dollars, the value in yen has dropped significantly as well... That and very low motivation lately. I should get cracking again, as those new Tomytec Kanto Railway diesels are slowly starting to creep up on me and I need to expand my Unitrack stock.

Couldn't agree more... ¥93 vs $1NZD 1 year ago is now ¥72 yen to the dollar.

I'm trying to balance between modeller and collector having favoured the collector lately it's time to start using what I've accumulated

I've been taking advantage of the weak GBP and filling in some gaps in my British collection, and skimming various pleasingly cheap German stuff off Yahoo Auctions, none of which is particularly relevant for this thread, unless you're interested in pictures like this:

and just ordered one of these, and otherwise am having fun now I have a working loop going through all the stuff I've acquired giving it a proper run.

Having just spoken out above about the poor exchange rate I thought I'd jinx myself in the hope of a small parcel arriving soon and sure enough it did this morning.

Finally got the tomytec restaurant that I had been waiting for to complete the station module.

Took 2 hours to put together, having to do your own window glazing was surprising given I hadn't struck that before with any of the other building kits I've purchased.

Ignore the White entrance ways, the base is 5mm thick so I'm the process of making a ramp to take it down to the road level on my module...post-921-0-49161800-1470348669_thumb.jpg

My order from Nariichi E3-700 Series Shinkansen Toreiyu Tsubasa and Bus motor unit plus my Ebay order (Tomix tracks) arrived at the same time. The E3 looks great. Love the Train.

Both my green and yellow greenmax tampers showed up this week, setting up a test track this weekend to give them a whirl (everything is torn up in the basement, metroing to clean up last month!). Both came completely intact (one box got quite crushed but no apparent damage to the stuff inside) and looking nice. Paint job is good (some weathering and maybe some real detail color bits will pop well after looking at more prototype pictures) and all elements in place and not loose. All lines are straight. So far I think the overall quality is good and right up there with most of my other Kato, tomix, greenmax, and microace trains. I'll see on the running and lights soon here. Very happy to have more mow equipment!

Cheers

Just ordered a Kato layout build guide book from Amazon.jp.  I plan to start building towards the end of September once I move in to my new apartment.

And a photo of a finished layout from kato's old showroom.

Busy day!  I also got a kato 10-1120 485系 and a kato 10-1354 581系.   The 485 is a beautiful model and runs like a dream.  I'm rather disappointed with the performance of the 581 however, the power unit is very noisy as the motor is not secured very well and jumps around, and in addition the electrical contact strips easily contact the frame and short out often.  Also the motor was also electrically disconnected on one side, but that was easily fixed.

Well you could always try cleaning the track first unless that didnt stop the issue...

I decided to try out interior lighting, so today I picked up kato's 11-212 interior lighting kit.  I installed it in my Kiha 82 series this afternoon and I'm pretty happy with the result.

The light does seem to reflect the interior color of each car so I may paint the floor and walls a more neutral tone and add whatever the white fabric covers on the headrests are called.

Nice ~ The 500 series is a beautiful train! You wouldn't regret it!  :)  And of course, it doesn't stop there ~  :P
